Voters approved the installation of a turf field in Lynbrook last Tuesday.

The of whether a turf field is coming to Lynbrook has officially been answered.

Last week, a $74,468,696 budget for the 2012-13 school year, as well as the installation of a turf field at Marion Street Elementary School.

The turf field was approved in the fourth proposition of last Tuesday's vote, which passed by a margin of 887 votes to 721 — the closest vote of the day.

Whats next a poll in the patch about the last presidential election??
The people voted on it and it was approved. How about a poll on is the Patch relevant to Lynbrook??
Lynbrook Resident May 25, 2012 at 02:07 pm
This is relevant to Lynbrook. Try and sell your house in Lynbrook with school taxes as high as they are. Try to justify a $74 MILLION DOLLAR school budget covering less than 20,000 residents (TOTAL RESIDENT) not school age children but RESIDENTS in Lynbrook. Yes, go ahead and divide $74 MILLION dollars by 20,000 and then decide if the overcrowding in the High School is being addressed and why there is no SAT prep offered FREE in the district and why in god's name does the Superintendent require a salary higher than the President of the United States????? Get your heads out of the sand, the LAST thing we needed in these stressful economic times is a TURF FIELD.
Sure, these are good things for the kids you say? I would like to think in the same altruistic way you do, but the FIRST thing that is threatened if the outrageous budgets aren't passed are ALL the good things for the kids you mentioned above. It's like ruling with an iron club. For $74 MILLION DOLLARS, those kids are entitled to FAR more than this district provides.

MAabe you should have studied a little in school but the superuintendet makes less than the president. Actually we should have went with the plan that had three of the turf fields installed

I agree with Lynbrook resident, when we were kids were the fields grass or artificial turf? Most were grass, did this scar anyone for like that they had to play on grass? In this economic time I think it's ludicrous to be spending money on such a luxury as turf. New research also claims that besides the injuries caused by the turf fields it also has some kind of carcinogen in it. How many kids in Lynbrook actually made it to the NFL, Ummmmmmm, ZERO!

The topic has been beaten to death.
Turf field aside, this pathetic district, with it's goon like teachers union, like EVERY other district on LI, has a supt and 3 assistants. If there is REAL money to be saved, it is in the consolidation of leadership, administration and duplication of services. It's time to move. Adios muchachos y muchachas.

Do you have an idea how much of that $74 million is actually spent on education vs pensions, benefits and salaries for our hardworking district employees?
It's sickening.
Lynbrook Resident May 29, 2012 at 07:59 pm
Uhhh... that "reserve" came out of MY pocket!!!! Please don't assuage yourself by thinking they "found" some money just laying around. Good grief!
Lynbrook Resident May 29, 2012 at 08:00 pm
How much less? Hmmmm? Including perks and benefits? Just *exactly* how much less?
Lynbrook Resident May 29, 2012 at 08:07 pm
Yes Bill... the topic has been beaten to death... the residents of Lynbrook have been beaten to death, the students have been beaten to death.
You are so right about this administratively top-heavy district. There is absolutely no reason for any of it... the school district is too small for this nonsense. It's not *just* the turf field ... it's about YEARS of over-crowding in the High School, students reports of cockroaches running around the building, bloated teachers salaries and insane administrative salaries. Y'all might want to ask yourself why Mr. Barbarino a former High School Chemistry teacher with NO DEGREE in Education Administration shadowed the former Superintendent who DID have an Admin Degree... *just* long enough for him to take the spot. He stays a few years and then retires.... hmmm... ya think that had *something* to do with how his pension is funded? Nahhh.... all of that couldn't be THAT contrived. You're all like sheep.
Lynbrook Resident May 29, 2012 at 08:09 pm
And you should have paid for it all out of your own pocket. As the other poster said... how many NFL players have we groomed? The football team is a WALK ON TEAM for heaven's sake. All you have to do is SHOW UP and you're ON.

VOTERS APPROVED THE TURF FIELD! IF YOU EVER HAVE WATCHED A FOOTBALL GAME DOWN AT MARION STREET AND SEE HOW MANY PLAYERS,BAND MEMBERS,CHEERLEADERS,STAFF MEMBERS,STUDENTS AND FAMILIES COME DOWN TO SUPPORT THE JV AND VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAMS, YOU WOULD SEE WHY WE WANTED THE UPGRADE TO AN ARTIFICIAL TURF FIELD AND CONTINUE WHAT EVERY RESIDENT HAS BEEN SAYING FOR YEARS, OUR SCHOOLS ARE THE BEST! GO TO HOFSTRA AND SEE A BEAUTIFUL TURF FIELD WHERE OUR FOOTBALL TEAM CAPTURED THE LONG ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP[ FIRST IN OVER 20 YEARS]. GO TO MANY HIGH SCHOOLS CROSS THE COUNTY AND SEE THEIR MAGNIFICIENT TURF FIELDS. NO COMPARISON COMPARED TO A GRASS FIELD. CHECK OUT HEWLETTS TURF.OUR TEAMS DESERVE THE SAME. LYNBROOK HAS A WILLIAMSPORT LITTLE LEAGUE FIELD,A FANTASTIC SWIMMING POOL,A GREAT HOCKEY ARENA IN WHICH WE DIDNT HAVE A FEW YEARS AGO. JUST LOOK HOW MANY KIDS ARE USEING THESE FACILITIES.HUNDREDS! YOU HAVE TO KEEP UP WITH THE TIMES. LIKE FORMER MAYOR SCARPATO ONCE SAID, TO DO NOTHING IS GOING BACKWARDS. NO GRASS MAINTENANCE NECESSARY. I AM EXCITED THAT OUR FUTURE FOOTBALL TEAMS WILL BE PLAYING ON A BEAUTIFUL EYE APPEALING TURF FIELD. HEY EVEN THE UNIFORMS WILL STAY CLEAN!

Perfect John...just perfect. So now we'll have a "beautiful field" like everyone else so we can keep up with the times.
Now all we need are ALL THE OTHER intensely fabulous things the other schools have like perhaps a top flight curriculum and high as kite SAT scores. When the kids on the "new beautiful turf field" are attending Ivy League Universities because they are competitive enough to get into those schools, THEN we will have BETTER than anyone else has. In the meantime, they're spending millions for what.... 5 football games? Perfect.

That’s very nice that school districts that have the highest school taxes and costs, areRead More receiving additional money. The problem is that our state is in dire financial trouble and we can’t afford it. Upstate NY is a distressed disaster. How much more taxes are we going to pay?. Hear those feet marching out of state. Try fighting for drilling so we have jobs and revenue.

.......there they go again whitewashing a dilemma they don't want to touch......unconscionableRead More salaries and pensions paid by the taxpayer for incompetence? Not to mention 13 week vacations as well as numerous 1/2 days and weather shortened days. A $50000 band aid we end up paying indirectly anyway only increases taxes further down the road. They are either that stupid or they think we are!
