LHS Tri-M Music Honor Society Inducts New Members

Principal Joseph Rainis presented with honorary lifetime membership.

Following a time-honored Lynbrook High School tradition, 26 new members were inducted into the Lynbrook High School Chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society.

Students are carefully selected for this international honor society on the basis of scholarship, character, leadership and service. Parents and current members joined the new inductees for a ceremony that included musical presentations by members of the high school's band, orchestra and chorus, followed by a reception hosted by Parents and Friends of Music.

Director of Fine and Performing Arts Joseph Pallotta opened the Oct. 28 ceremony with the official presentation of the chapter. Then, advisors Susan Sussman and Alyssa Panitch joined Tri-M officers Rhett Belcher, Chelsea Carver, Samara Berry, Samantha Harris, Carly Bluth and Gillian Doupé on stage to officiate the presentation of new candidates.

The new members who were inducted are: seniors Michael Fernez, Jacob Kayen,
Mohamed Sadek and Bryan Sitt; juniors Brendan Dunn, Timothy Keegan, Kasey Keller, Kyle Parsard, Leslie Rodriguez, Erin Simon and David Towson; sophomores Matthew DeMichael, Jason Storch, and Brandon Wong; and freshmen Evan Biegel, Maria Ciaccio, Daniel Gomm, Tim Hung, Skyler Kessler, Matthew Paris, Brian Pavone, James Reilly, Joshua Tierney, Michael Towson, Erica Weingarten and Zachary Zaromatidis.

Lynbrook High School Principal Joseph Rainis was presented with an honorary
lifetime membership in recognition of his support of the music program.

Tri-M, which stands for Modern Music Masters, is a program of the National
Association for Music Education, the largest non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of music education. The organization addresses all aspects of music education and works to ensure that every student can be a part of a balanced,
comprehensive, and high-quality music education program.

The Lynbrook Tri-M Chapter is a service organization that contributes to the school and surrounding communities through musical performances and student mentoring. Throughout the year its members perform at senior centers, nursing homes, community centers and various schools within the district, acting as goodwill ambassadors. They also extend themselves as music tutors to students in the middle and elementary schools to help younger students prepare for the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) solo evaluation festivals.

One of the highlights of the Lynbrook High School's Tri-M activities is the Annual Cabaret Night, at which Tri-M members, joined by other talented LHS students, perform vocal duets, quartets, jazz combos, dance acts and comedy routines to raise money for a worthy cause. Most of the proceeds go to organizations, families or individuals in need of financial support, while a portion is reserved for a scholarship fund. The 2011 Cabaret Night is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 20 — mark your calendars for a great evening of entertainment!
