Lynbrook High School Hosts Senior Awards Night

Lynbrook High School seniors receive more than $100,000 in local scholarships at senior awards night.

Lynbrook pride spilled out over the packed gymnasium as family and friends gathered to salute the accomplishments of graduates of the Class of 2012 at Lynbrook High School's 42nd Annual Senior Awards Night.

Students received a combined total of approximately $111,000 in scholarship awards, including $20,000 worth of scholarships that were made possible through the generosity of the Lynbrook PTA Scholarship Fund.

The PTA scholarships, presented by Lynbrook Council of PTAs co-presidents Veronica Krendel and Tara Milillo, went to Daniela Alvarez, Emily Annesley, Kaitlin Baron, Maria Dimarzo, Alexis Djeljevic, Gabriella Fiore, Yanni Issidoridis, Caitlyn Ledwith, SoHee Lee, Alexandra Markou, Nansi Matua, Chu (Samantha) Mei, Maria Randazzo, Nicole Schaefer and Sarah West.

Lynbrook Board of Education President Catherine Papandrew and Vice President William Kayen presented the Peter Kostynick Scholarships to Ilana Ajzenman, Lauren Blackburn, Dana Cohen, Christina Cuevas, Ryan Dusenbury, Casey Frankel, Alyssa Glanzer, Matthew Gomm, Samantha Greenberg, Timothy Keegan, Meaghan Lawler, Kyle Parsard, Brandon Peresiper, Christine Randazzo and Laura Zweifler.

The Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce Community Service Awards were presented to Brendan Dunn, Carrie Feltkamp and Matthew Strobel.

Among the other notable community-based awards: Leslie Rodriguez was named the Historical Society of East Rockaway and Lynbrook Heritage Scholar; Carrie Feltkamp and Jaymie Tannor received scholarships from Long Island Blood Services; Ray Saltzman Scholarships went to Rosalie Chmiel, Rachel Licciardi and Erin Lyons.

Lynbrook PBA Scholarships were awarded to Hannah Deegan and Alexa Zajac; and Fly with the Owls Community Service Scholarships went to Nicholas Lastella and Jennifer Liguori.

"I want to thank the people who worked behind the scenes in preparation for this evening's program, including our excellent guidance staff, secretaries and assistant principals," Principal Joseph Rainis said. "I would also like to thank the faculty of Lynbrook High School, whose expertise, professionalism and devotion to the young people of our community make my job a lot smoother

Rainis added: "Most significantly, I want to thank the individuals, groups and families in attendance this evening for coming out to honor the fine students from Lynbrook's Class of 2012 at this celebration of their academic achievement and commitment to their community. To be in attendance at this event is truly an honor."
