Lynbrook Kindergartners Hosts 'Mini' Relay for Life

Story by Rosemary Leonetti:

Doing their part to contribute to the Lynbrook Relay for Life, kindergartners and their families rolled up their sleeves and slipped on their sneakers to participate in their annual Mini Relay.

Families circled the field outside the Lynbrook Kindergarten Center to raise money and awareness for the American Cancer Society.

Children sold visors emblazoned with the words “Kids at Heart.” They also sold sand-filled memorial bags decorated by the children in honor of, or in memory of, family members who have suffered from cancer.

The bags adorned the field for all to see as participants walked with hope for a cancer-free future for all.

To show their solidarity, students also created a giant “Kids at Heart” banner that featured the handprints of students in every kindergarten class.

“The children and their families were very proud to come together as a school to help fight cancer,” principal Ellen Postman said. “It was a memorable experience for everyone involved.”
