Malverne School Board Agenda: Aug. 21

See what the Board of Education will be discussing at tonight's meeting.

The Malverne Board of Education will hold their August business meeting tonight at 8 p.m. inside Malverne High School.

According to the draft agenda, which was last updated on Aug. 20, the meeting will include updates on the school district's buildings and grounds. (As you may recall, both Davison Avenue Secondary and Maurice W. Downing Primary schools have been undergoing extensive renovations during the summer.) Dr. James Hunderfund's Superintendent's Report will also include updates on the district's financial situation and

The agenda also mentions, under "Communications," emails the Board of Education received regarding their decision last month to administrators and central office staff. (As of press time, 177 people had requesting the board to rescind these raises, as well as the two-year contract extension granted to Dr. Hunderfund.)

The terminations of three personnel -- two teaching assistants and one civil service position -- will be voted on tonight, along with two resignations, a leave of absence and 74 appointments, including 23 teachers/teaching assistants.

The school board will be also voting to adopt the minutes from last month's board meeting, as well as the June 2012 Treasurer's report, and more than a dozen contracts for various services for the upcoming school year, which are outline in the attached draft agenda. (Click on the document at the top right to enlarge it.)

Another interesting item on the agenda is a donation of a stained glass window from Malverne High School's Class of 1962, which, if accepted, would be placed in the high school library.

Check Patch tomorrow for coverage of the Aug. 21 meeting.

Where were all the people who posted on the subject of BOE approving rasies and opening their big mouths with their bright ideas, at the meeting last night? How is it that you have so much to say, however, can't make time to attend the meeting? Mr./Ms. PHDinEconomics? All the rest of you who can put other people's opinions down and make snide remarks? One would have expected to see a turn out that rocked the room. All mouth and no action.

I have to say I didnt know about this meeting until this morning. I should have checked but it slipped my mind. I was one of the 177 that signed the petition . Was there any discussion regarding the pay raises?

Nothing significant about it at all. No mention of the petition. If those who signed the petition don't show up for the very thing they are fighting for then it is useless. They post meetings on the board outside of the high school and on the doors as well as the web site. Sorry, but if you talk the talk, you have to walk the walk. There were question s opened up to the public at that meeting as well. There was everyone's chance to bring it up.

Did you?
Veronica August 23, 2012 at 06:57 PM
I didn't sign the petition Michael. I am just for everyone who signed it and it's cause.

Veronica, I am not sure what you mean ? Do you think the School Board acted properly? So , you are for the cause , at the meeting and don't say anything. If all of us came to the meeting and didn't say anything wouldn't that have the same outcome? Thank you for bringing the meeting to our attention. Looks like you might have started something , I opened my front door this morning to find a notice for the Petition on my front stoop. Anybody know what we do next to reverse the Pay raises of the select Malverne Central administration?

If you follow the Malverne school district news on a regular basis you are aware that the board of education has recently become an agenda of its own, not leaving much room for any other business. Its conduct has been divisive, obscure, and poisonous. The current school board is a burden and embarrassment to the school district residents.
