Malverne School Board Agenda: Aug. 21

See what the Board of Education will be discussing at tonight's meeting.

The Malverne Board of Education will hold their August business meeting tonight at 8 p.m. inside Malverne High School.

According to the draft agenda, which was last updated on Aug. 20, the meeting will include updates on the school district's buildings and grounds. (As you may recall, both Davison Avenue Secondary and Maurice W. Downing Primary schools have been undergoing extensive renovations during the summer.) Dr. James Hunderfund's Superintendent's Report will also include updates on the district's financial situation and   

The agenda also mentions, under "Communications," emails the Board of Education received regarding their decision last month to administrators and central office staff. (As of press time, 177 people had requesting the board to rescind these raises, as well as the two-year contract extension granted to Dr. Hunderfund.)

The terminations of three personnel -- two teaching assistants and one civil service position -- will be voted on tonight, along with two resignations, a leave of absence and 74 appointments, including 23 teachers/teaching assistants.

The school board will be also voting to adopt the minutes from last month's board meeting, as well as the June 2012 Treasurer's report, and more than a dozen contracts for various services for the upcoming school year, which are outline in the attached draft agenda. Another interesting item on the agenda is a donation of a stained glass window from Malverne High School's Class of 1962, which, if accepted, would be placed in the high school library.
