Malverne School District Web Site Gets Makeover

District launches redesigned site to make it easier to share information with the community.

If you've visited the Malverne School District's Web site in recent days you may have noticed that the online portal has a new look.

The district launched a newly redesigned Web site at www.malverne.k12.ny.us earlier this month and its public relations firm, Syntax, provided a tutorial for school officials and community members during the Feb. 12 Board of Education meeting.

"The board and administration recognize the important role the district’s Web site plays in providing the most up-to-date school news and information for parents, guardians and community residents, and the new site will provide this information in a more clear and concise manner," read a statement released by the district last week.

The new site has a cleaner and more user-friendly layout. Important information, including the latest presentations on the 2013-2014 budget, can be found at the top of the page under "Announcements." When the district needs to announce school closings or issue other emergency alerts, the information will be clearly displayed using a ticker that runs across the page.

Visitors can also access the district-wide main calendar or view calendars for each school building separately. The site allows users to create their own custom school calendar to only show events that pertain to them and their children, and sync it with their Outlook, iCal or Google calendar account.

Unlike the old site, the new one is easier to navigate. Information is organized into clear categories and if you still can't find what you're looking for, there is a search bar at the top right.

The new site is also better equipped to feature photos and stories highlighting Malverne students and staff. In addition to articles about recent events and accomplishments, the "Student Feature" column on the homepage will also spotlight individual kids from Malverne's four schools. And if you see a story you like, you can also easily share it with your social network by clicking on one of the icons for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Blogger, Reddit, Delicious, StumbleUpon or your email.

The district invites everyone to visit the new site and revisit it often for the latest in school and district news. Please note that if you previously had the district Web site bookmarked, that link will no longer work. You will need to manually access the site with the web address and bookmark it again for your convenience.

You can also follow Malverne School District on Twitter at @MalverneUFSD and now on Facebook. Simply click here or search “Malverne School District” in the Facebook search field, then click the “Like” icon. The page will feature an assortment of photo galleries, school events and stories on everything occurring in the district.
