Malverne Schools' Doc Invited to White House

Mrs. Obama wasn't the only Michelle in the White House recently.

Dr. Michele C. Reed, the physician for the Malverne school district and a graduate of attended a one-time Health Information Technology Meeting at the White House in Washington, DC last month.

Dr. Reed, of Lakeview, was one of 150 health care professionals from across the United States, and only one of three from the New York City area, who were chosen to attend the June 19 forum. She was invited for her experience in using electronic health records and her participation on the Advisory Board for the Primary Care Information Project through the New York City Health Department.

Serving as the primary physician to the Malverne School District for the past 12 years, Reed owns her own practice, MS Family Medicine Healthcare PC, which has locations in Garden City and Rosedale. In the past year, Reed has been honored with the CSEA Nassau Local Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Awardand the Leadership Award from the Coalition of Black Trade Unions. She has been named to the 2011 Guide to America’s Top Family Doctors, received the , was named Medical Professional of the Year by the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, and was one of 10 recognized in Nassau County by SUNY Stony Brook Medical School for her commitment and participation in preceptorship.

In addition to her many accomplishments, she founded the not-for-profit First Things First Foundation for Health and Wellness in 2009. The organization seeks to create healthy communities and prevent diseases, and mentors young girls.
