Malverne Students Celebrate Dental Health Month

Kindergarten students learn about good dental hygiene.

In honor of March as Dental Health Month, kindergarten students in Mrs. Paolillo and Ms. Janosel’s class at Maurice W. Downing Primary School in the Malverne School District have been reviewing how to take care of their teeth.

In addition to reading a book and discussing what is good and bad for their teeth, the class conducted an experiment to see the effects of soda on their teeth, observing that after an egg sat in soda for a few hours, the white outer shell turned brown.

Kindergartners were then given a toothbrush and demonstrated their brushing skills on the eggs by using toothpaste to scrub the soda stains away.
