Eighth grade students at Howard T. Herber Middle School in Malverne recently held their annual Immigration Extravaganza.
Students researched immigrants who have come to the United States since 1800. Then, in small groups, they displayed their information on a board.
The eighth-graders were required to do an in-depth study on the culture of the immigrants and their contributions to the United States, which they brought to life by using props, dressing the part and having food from the country of origin.
Countries included Italy, Japan, Vietnam, the Czech Republic, El Salvador, South Korea, North Korea, China, Colombia, Jamaica, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. All middle school students were urged to visit the exhibits and “travel through time” with their peers.
