Mules 'Didn't Play Malverne Football' Against Falcons

Malverne High School's varsity football team falls to Locust Valley, 35-6, Saturday.

After suffering a 35-6 loss to Locust Valley Saturday, Malverne High School's varsity football head coach, Kito Lockwood, says his team needs to go back to the drawing board.

"We didn't play Malverne football today," Lockwood said after his Mules remained scoreless for the first three quarters of the home game at Howard T. Herber Middle School, while the Falcons racked up five touchdowns. "I would like to think we can play better than this. We work too hard to give this kind of effort."

Malverne couldn't stop the powerful Locust Valley offense led by QB Joe Jacobi, who threw for 113 yards including a TD, and Chris Appell, who rushed for 85 yards and a TD.

The Mules did not quit though and finally put together a few offensive drives in the fourth quarter, including one that resulted in a touchdown by RB Aaron Hill.

This was Hill's second TD for this season. He helped lead his team to a 12-7 victory over North Shore last week.

"We played hard Week 1, but I don't think we did today. This was humbling," Lockwood said.

Lockwood is grateful his team is going into a bye week with no injuries and still with a winning 2-1 record. He plans to review the footage from Saturday's game, regroup with his coaches and reinforce the fundamentals with his players before they take on their next opponent, Valley Stream North.

He added," We have a lot of work to do."
