Residents Form Online Petition Against Princeton Plan

East Rockaway schools are considering implementing the controversial plan.

Some East Rockaway residents aren't on board with the proposed Princeton Plan, and they aren't being shy about it, either.

Residents have formed an online petition in opposition to the plan, which would organize students in the district’s two elementary schools by grade level, not geographic location.

Critics have said that there is no proof the plan will improve children's education, and said that bussing kids to school will cause multiple problems. East Rockaway is a currently a non-bussing district, and parents about the safety of having to move multiple children to different schools in a relatively short amount of time.

There are currently 104 signatures on the petition, and one resident has formed a Facebook page to initiate a conversation about the plan.

"I do not want my young children bussed to school. When buying my home, the location of the school was a plus," said resident Shannon Doyle.

Other residents expressed concerns over traffic in the village.

"This is a plan that does not take traffic quality of life or property values into consideration," said Gary Aue. "Not a very thought out plan by the school board. What is the superintendent thinking?"
