School District 13 Searches For New Superintendent, Seeks Residents' Input

The December meeting of the Valley Stream District 13 Board of Education was brief, but focused on two important issues.

The Board of Education for the Valley Stream Union Free School District 13 - which includes a portion of Malverne residents -  held its monthly business meeting Tuesday night. The session on Dec. 20 at James A. Dever Elementary School was relatively brief as the school district administrators and board members prepared to leave for the holiday break. The big issues discussed pertained to finding a new superintendent and preparing for next year's budget.

 New Superintendent

The main discussion on the agenda for the meeting was the need to appoint a new superintendent. The current superintendent, Elizabeth Lison, will be leaving at the end of the school year.

Like the Valley Stream Central High School School District, District 13 has hired a consulting company to search for its new superintendent. The company has given a survey to the community, asking what qualities they would like to see in their superintendent.

Board of Education President,Frank Chiachiere stated, "the search for the new superintendent is going very well."

Superintendent's Report

Superintendent Lison told the board about the wonderful events that have happened in the district this past month.

All of the schools held their annual winter concert and Lison stated, "They all did an excellent job." She also mentioned the charitable activities that have been taking place in the schools for the holidays. James A. Dever Elementary School held a toy drive for the community, which was a huge success.

The board is also preparing for next year's budget, which will become their major focus when they return from winter break.

The Board also wished all of the district residents Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year.
