If you're looking for something unique for the friends and family on your holiday shopping list, a local craft fair is a great alternative to the malls and chain stores.
St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in West Hempstead hosted its annual craft fair on Nov. 17, where dozens of vendors sold toys, handbags and handmade jewelry, hair accessories, home decor, ornaments, wreaths and more. Santa Claus also stopped by to meet with some of the local kids and find out what's on their Christmas lists this year.

Missed the fair or still have more shopping to do? Many of the same vendors along with other crafters will be selling their merchandise at the Our Lady of Lourdes Christmas Boutique in Malverne this Sunday, Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the school hall (76 Park Blvd.) Next door, inside the church basement, kids can also shop for affordable gifts at Santa's Gift Shop from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
