Two Lynbrook Students Earn Honorable Mention at Science Essay Challenge

Zoe Daniels and Stephanie Mertz both earned the award.

Lynbrook High School students Zoe Daniels and Stephanie Mertz both earned honorable mention in the senior division of the 2011 DuPont Science Essay Challenge. The high school was one of only four schools in New York State to earn honorable mentions, and the only school in the state to earn two honorable mentions.

Zoe’s essay was entitled “Alzheimer’s: Diabetes of the Brain.”  Stephanie’s essay was entitled “The Effect of Stereotype Threat on Female Math Students.” Both students developed their essays as members of the Science Research Program, under the guidance of teacher David Shanker.

Now celebrating its 25th anniversary, the DuPont Challenge is the nation's premiere science essay awards program. Nearly 10,000 students from the United States and Canada participated in the 2011 Science Essay Challenge. To view the list of 2011 winners, visit http://thechallenge.dupont.com.
