Two Students Qualify to Compete at I-SWEEEP International Science Competition

Matt Gus and Mikayel Ayvazyan will head to Houston next month.

Lynbrook High School students Matt Gus and Mikayel Ayvazyan qualified to
compete at the International Sustainable World (Engineering, Energy & Environment) Project Olympiad (I-SWEEEP) in Houston on May 5-9.

Gus worked at Farmingdale State University on a project to test the energy
density of ultracapacitors with carbon nanotubes. Ayvazyan constructed a special antenna to obtain weather energy results. Their projects will be judged along with 450 top projects from 70 countries and 43 U.S. states.

Organized by the Cosmos Foundation, I-SWEEEP is the largest science fair
event of its kind in the world. The objective of the competition is to spark interest
and awareness in our planet’s sustainability challenges, and to accelerate the progress toward a sustainable world by engaging young minds at an early age to develop an environmentally conscious global community and inspire personal responsibility in caring for the planet and those who share it.
