VIDEO: Malverne Salutes Sacrifices of Soldiers

Malverne holds Memorial Day parade and tribute ceremony.

Malverne remembered the sacrifices of America's fallen soldiers this Memorial Day in a special ceremony and parade throughout the village.

Residents filled the lawn at surrounding the gazebo, where local vets and elected officials led them in a tribute to the men and women who perished for their country.

The mood was more solemn than usual as they spoke of the recent passing of Deputy Mayor Jim Callahan.

A parade then made its way through the neighborhood led by veterans who stepped to the beat of the Malverne High School Marching band. Following behind were village officials, civic leaders and kids clad in scouting and sports uniforms.

They all made their way to in Westwood, where they stopped for a moment to salute the flag as it was raised.

Many families shouted out 'thank you' to the vets, as well as volunteers from the ambulance corps and fire department, as they passed by for their service to their country and community.

Check out the video report above or from the day.
