West End Celebrates Earth Day

Students were able to gain a new perspective on their planet.

To celebrate Earth Day, Lynbrook's West End Elementary fourth and fifth grade students were given a unique perspective of the planet on Tuesday, May 1.

A 20-foot inflatable Earth dome made from high resolution satellite images with true to life colors using state-of-the-art images to provide a flawless representation of the Earth was in their gymnasium.

The balloon allowed the students to see the world in a new and exciting way. This perspective brings learning to life and builds appreciation for our planet.

Students were able to see and better understand the scale of concepts such as climates, continents, time zones, environment and more.

The view of the earth as it appears from space, as opposed to painted globes or drawings, is an experience the students will not soon forget.

According to a school spokeswoman, "The most exciting part of the assembly was when the children were able to go inside the dome and gain yet another perspective of their planet."
