West Hempstead HS Named to Newsweek’s Best US Schools

West Hempstead bests neighboring Malverne High School by more than 500 places.

West Hempstead High School was recently ranked No. 1142 on Newsweek’s list of the Best High Schools in America.

The list features only 2,000 high schools across the entire United States and approximately 200 from New York State.

The high schools were ranked based upon those which best prepare their students for college, with the determining factors including graduation rate, participation in college-level courses and student acceptances to college.

"Mr. Rehman, the high school principal, and all of us in West Hempstead are pleased to be on Newsweek's list of the top 2,000 high schools in the nation and congratulate all involved in achieving this recognition," West Hempstead Superintendent John Hogan said. "Our goal is to build on the present, continue to enhance our curriculum offerings, challenge our students with higher standards, and move up on the list in the future."

Malverne High School was recently ranked No. 1,682 on the same list.
