"It recognizes the hard work of our students, faculty and administrators, not only in the high school, but also district-wide," Hogan told Patch. "Without the work of our elementary and middle schools too our high school students would not have been nearly as successful."

Hogan said the honor is also very meaningful because it encompasses a number of different measures including test scores and graduation rates. However, he added that the distinction does not mean their isn't room for improvement.

"Our goal is not to be on a particular list," he said. "Our real goal is to continue to to make the schools better. We still have work to do."
