West Hempstead School Board: Jan. 15

See what issues the Board of Education will be tackling tonight.

The West Hempstead Board of Education will hold its January business meeting tonight at 7:30 p.m. inside West Hempstead High School.

During the meeting, Superintendent John Hogan and the board will be recognizing student athletes. The board will also be voting on staff and tenure appointments, resignations and compensation days for the Special Education Director.

Two memorandum of agreements -- one with the West Hempstead Office Staff Association and another with the West Hempstead Education Association -- pertaining to the Feburary recess are on the agenda. (The board voted in November to convert five scheduled vacation days in February 2013 to school days to make up for instructional time lost due to Superstorm Sandy.) There's also a stipulation of settlement with WHEA listed too.

The board also plans to vote on special education service contracts, an agreement with the American Red Cross, 19 existing policies addressing a range of issues, and one proposed policy regarding special education services for non-public school students. (View the agenda above for a list of the policies.)

As always, the meeting will include will be two periods for public input
