West Hempstead Students Serve as Role Models for Peers

SaraJo Weinstein and Terry Oh receive awards from New York State AHPERD.

Two West Hempstead High School students were recognized by a state organization for living healthy lifestyles and being positive role models for their peers.

The Nassau Zone of the New York State American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AHPERD) presented awards on Dec. 10 to SaraJo Weinstein and Terry Oh during a dinner reception at Crest Hollow Country Club.

To earn the award students had to demonstrate and value a healthy lifestyle and lifelong learning, exhibit a physically active lifestyle, both during and outside of school, and show exceptional achievement in physical education class. They also had to demonstrate leadership and responsible personal and social behavior including good sportsmanship, character, civility and citizenship, as well as serve as a positive influence on their peers.
