Long Island was well-represented at this year's State Science Congress by West Hempstead's Chris McAvoy.
A science research student at West Hempstead High School, McAvoy competed as a finalist in the STANYS (Science Teachers Association of New York) State Science Congress in Albany at the College of Saint Rose on June 10. He joined regional finalists from all over New York State to compete in this prestigious event.
Chris presented his project, entitled "Biiomimetic Wind Turbine Blade Design Efficiency," to the panel of scientists and engineers and answered several of their questions. He finished in the top ten and received an Award for Excellence in Engineering, Mathematics, and Computing.
