Conto Collects Fourth 'Rookie of the Week' Award at Hofstra

The Hofstra Women’s Lacrosse team picked up both weekly awards from the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) this week as sophomore attack Brittain Altomare was named the conference’s player of the week, while freshman attack/midfielder Becky Conto from West Hempstead earned her fourth CAA rookie of the week honor.

Altomare, Hofstra’s top player all season, leads Hofstra in scoring with 32 goals and 32 assists for 64 points.

Conto put the final finishing touches on a stellar rookie campaign over the weekend as she posted six draw controls and added an assist as Hofstra earned a 12-10 victory over Drexel to capture the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Colonial Athletic Association Championship. Faced with a must-win situation, Conto led the way for Hofstra from the draw control area as she had six in a stellar performance.

Conto previously won CAA “Rookie of the Week” honors on March 25, April 8 and April 15.

For the year Conto is third on the team with 19 points on 15 goals and four assists. She also has a team-best 52 draw controls to go along with 11 ground balls and seven caused turnovers.

Hofstra is next in action on Friday when it takes on James Madison in the semifinals of the CAA Championship.

Hofstra will face the second-seeded Dukes at 3:30 p.m. Towson and Drexel will meet in the other semifinal at 1 p.m. All games will take place at Towson at the Tiger Soccer Complex.

The championship game is set for Sunday at 1 p.m.
