BELLMORE

Kennedy

Boys Soccer: Elmont has been a surprise team this season, and Kennedy found that out again on Wednesday. The Cougars were shutout by the Spartans on the road by a 3-0 score, with all three goals coming off of the foot of Benji Alonge. Kennedy has now dropped two games in a row and falls to 2-7-0 on the season.

Girls Soccer: The Lady Cougars have extended their unbeaten streak to eight games with a 1-0 win on Wednesday against visiting Plainview JFK. The speedy junior Kerri Baum scored the lone goal of the game with about 20 minutes to go. Nicole Liotta halted a talented Lady Hawks offense to notch a 15-save shutout, helping Kennedy improve to 7-1-1 on the season.

Boys Volleyball: The Cougars swept aside Roslyn on the road on Wednesday to improve to 5-3 in Conference IV. While Ben Canarick and Steve Gassert usually lead the offensive output, multiple players contributed to the win this time around. Kennedy has won five of its last six after starting the season 0-2.

Boys Badminton: The Cougars defeated district rival Mepham on the road Wednesday by a 5-2 final. The closest matchup of the day went to Brian Schwartz and Mike Esposito, who won their doubles match in three sets to help Kennedy advance to 5-3 overall on the year.

Mepham

Boys Soccer: Mepham put out a strong effort on the road at Carey, coming back from a 0-2 deficit after halftime, but eventually fell by a 4-2 final. Fermin Sorto and Billy Dudley were the goal scorers for the Pirates, who now stand at 5-5-0 in Conference III. Mepham previously defeated Carey back in September by a 5-2 score.

Boys Volleyball: Mepham struggled to find a run of points against a talented New Hyde Park team on Wednesday, losing in three straight sets. The Pirates were outscored by 30 combined points in the match, falling to 1-8 on the season.

Boys Badminton: Mepham lost to rival Kennedy at home for the second time this season, both by a final score of 5-2. The Pirates drop their record to 2-5 on the season.

EAST MEADOW

Clarke

Girls Volleyball: Clarke went back and forth with visiting East Rockaway, taking a one set lead twice in the match. However, East Rockaway won the final two sets -- 25-21 and 25-18 -- to claim the match in five sets. Kaitlyn Kieser and Julia Cast displayed solid performances all around, but their longest match of the season drops the team to 4-6 on the season.

Field Hockey: Clarke continued its undefeated season with a 3-2 comeback win on Wednesday against Locust Valley. The Lady Rams fell behind 1-0 in the first half, but a trio of second-half goals helped the girls improve their record to 8-0-3 in Conference I. Emma Foster, Demi Shanahan and Nicole Gibaldi each scored a goal in the exciting win at home.

East Meadow 

Girls Volleyball: East Meadow defeated visiting Farmingdale in a thrilling five-set match on Wednesday. Becky Syers was the player of the match, with two season-high statistics -- notching 43 assists and 13 kills to lead in the win. Jennifer Gundrum was right there with her, recording a career-high 23 kills. Kerri Shaprio matched Syers with 13 kills as well. The win moves the Lady Jets into third place in Conference AA-I at 5-4.

Girls Swimming: The Lady Jets hung in until the very end at Hewlett on Wednesday, losing by a close 52-48 final. East Meadow is 0-2 on the season in Conference III.

FIVE TOWNS

Hewlett

Girls Swimming: Hewlett edged out visiting East Meadow by a 52-48 final score in a Wednesday head-to-head meet. Val Elefante and Melissa Usdan led the Lady Bulldogs in the win. Hewlett is now 3-2 on the year.

Lawrence

Boys Soccer: The Golden Tornadoes will travel to Plainedge for a game at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Boys Volleyball: The Golden Tornadoes will travel to West Hempstead for a match at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Girls Volleyball: The girls volleyball team, which has now lost two straight matches after starting 8-0, will host Great Neck North at 6 p.m. on Thursday night.

GARDEN CITY

Field Hockey: Garden City is without question one of the more dominant teams on the field in the state, and the Lady Trojans proved it once again with an 8-0 win over Seaford. Catherine McTiernan, Alexandra Bruno and Krista Dampman all led the way for the team, each with a pair of goals. This one was over quickly, as Garden City put up six of its eight scores in the first half. 

LEVITTOWN 

Division 

Boys Soccer: The Blue Dragons will play a road game at Seaford at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday.

Girls Soccer: The undefeated Lady Dragons will host North Shore in a night game at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Girls Volleyball: The Lady Dragons will host a match against Great Neck South at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Island Trees

Girls Soccer: Island Trees continued its dominance in Conference A-II with a 2-0 win at home against a surging Wantagh team. Kristin Duthie and Allison Merrill, who now has eight goals on the season, provided the offensive output in the effort. The Lady Bulldogs are now 10-1-0 on the season. Girls Volleyball: Island Trees swept Cold Spring Harbor on the road, 25-14, 25-19 and 25-13. Lauren Ecock and Allanna Basile both recorded seven kills in the win, moving the Lady Dawgs up the rankings in Conference BC-II. The team has now won three consecutive matches after dropping a Sept. 26 meeting with North Shore in five sets.

MacArthur

Boys Soccer: The boys travel to Baldwin on Thursday with an 0-6-1 record in Conference III.

Girls Soccer: The girls host Massapequa on Thursday with a 7-2-0 record in Conference AA-I.

Girls Volleyball: The Lady Generals are a perfect 8-0 on the season and will travel to Freeport on Oct. 14.

LONG BEACH

Boys Soccer: The Marines experienced a recent undefeated streak since the start of October, but the team saw the streak come to an end on Wednesday with a 2-1 loss at Great Neck South. Bryan Cruz took a pass from Dylan Palacio in the first half, and Long Beach remained tied at 1-1 until 20 minutes to go. The Marines stand at 2-6-2, and despite the struggles, still have an outside shot at the playoffs with four games left.

Girls Soccer: The Lady Marines Oct, 11 matchup against Syosset will be aired by the MSG Varsity network on Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m. on Optimum channel 14.

LYNBROOK

Girls Swimming: The Lady Owls defeated Bethpage in a road meet by a 97-83 final. The win moves the team to 6-1 overall in Conference III this season. Andrianne Germanacos and Christine Randazzo led Lynbrook in the victory.

MALVERNE

Girls Soccer: Malverne/East Rockaway won a tough road match on Wednesday afternoon at Great Neck North, winning by a 2-0 score. Kathleen Owens and Kara Camerada each scored a goal for the team, but the true hero was goalkeeper Kerri Vulpis, who stopped 17 shots in her third shutout of the year. Malverne/East Rockaway stands at 5-3-0 on the season.

Girls Volleyball: Malverne completed arguably its most impressive win of the season at Oyster Bay. The girls trailed by two sets, but rallied back to win three straight sets, 25-22, 25-14 and 25-21. Sara Robinson had eight kills and six aces, as well as a team-high 12 assists. Amanda Masson recorded a team-high nine kills to move Malverne to 6-2 in Conference BC-II.

MERRICK

Girls Soccer: Calhoun continued its dominance in Conference AA-II with a convincing 5-2 win at home against Valley Stream Central. Michelle Iacono and Kayla Cappuzzo each scored a pair of goals, and Kristina Gandolfo added one, along with three of four team assists on the day. Chandler Baltazar stopped 10 shots in her first start of the season to help the Lady Colts advance to 8-0-2.

Boys Volleyball: Calhoun hosted a talented Oceanside team on Wednesday, but fell in straight sets, being outscored 75-59 in the process. Despite strong play from Jospeh Hernandez, Kevin King and Dylan Darnaud, the Colts dropped to 1-6 on the season.

MINEOLA

Girls Soccer: Roslyn defeated the Lady Mustangs on Wednesday by a narrow 1-0 final, with the lone goal of the game coming in the opening minutes of the second half. Nina Ribeiro stopped 12 of the 13 shots on goal in the effort. Mineola falls to 2-6-3 on the year with its third consecutive loss in Conference A-III.

Girls Volleyball: Mineola swept aside Wheatley on the road, 25-17, 25-20 and 25-10 to advance to 8-2 overall this season. The Lady Mustangs have won six consecutive matches by a combined 18-0 in the set count.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE

Boys Soccer: The Cyclones will host Wantagh on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Girls Soccer: The Lady Cyclones will travel to Plainedge for a game at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Girls Volleyball: The Lady Cyclones will travel to Herricks for a match at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

SEAFORD

Girls Volleyball: Seaford continued its undefeated season with a clean sweep at Carle Place, 25-16, 25-14 and 25-19. The Lady Vikings are now a perfect 9-0 in Conference BC-II, with a slight lead over Mineola. Courtney Carbone and Megan Russell led the way in the win.

Field Hockey: The Lady Vikings gave it their best effort at Garden City, but were outnumbered and outmatched, as the Lady Trojans won it by an 8-0 final. Paige Waslow stopped 12 shots in her first start of the season in goal. Seaford is now 3-8-0 on the season.

WANTAGH

Girls Soccer: Wantagh has been a surprise team this season with a slew of young players in the starting lineup. On Wednesday, the Lady Warriors fell to a tough Island Trees team on the road, 2-0. Brenna Smith made seven saves in the effort. The loss drops the team to 5-2-2 and snaps a four-game winning streak.

Girls Swimming: Wantagh defeated Syosset in a road meet by a 102-86 margin to advance to 6-1 on the season. The team was led by an exceptional performance in the 100-yard breaststroke event, with Brooke DiMarinis and Kathryn Aguilo claiming the top two spots.

WEST HEMPSTEAD

Boys Soccer: The Rams fell behind early at Floral Park and could not recover, losing by a 4-0 final score Wednesday. Despite limited offensive chances given up with goalkeeper Luis Palomo saving just three shots, West Hempstead had its own struggles on the offensive end as a four-game unbeaten streak (3-0-1) was snapped. Despite the loss, the Rams remain in first place in Conference VI at 5-3-1.
