BELLMORE

Kennedy

Football: After a dramatic last-second win against Carle/Place Wheatley, Kennedy has a strong shot at pulling its record to an even 3-3 as the team heads to Westbury (0-5). Matt Delbianco and Chris Racalbuto should be able to move the ball and score points on offense, as Westbury has given up at least 40 points in four games this season.

Girls Volleyball: Kennedy defeated Garden City in straight sets, 25-23, 25-22 and 25-17. Kerri Stalzer led the way with 10 kills and sophomore Lauren Sustad contributed with seven more kills, as well as four blocks. The Lady Cougars are now 7-3 on the season.

Mepham

Find out what's happening in Malverne-Lynbrookwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Football: Mepham will meet with an Elmont team on Saturday in an attempt to make it two wins in a row after dropping its first game of the season at Wantagh in week three. Elmont (3-2) has been an inconsistent team this season despite what its record shows. A stout Pirates defense should hold the Spartans at bay, mixed in with a strong running game led by Kevin Tauriello.

Girls Volleyball: Mepham dropped an exciting match at Carey in five sets on Thursday. The Lady Pirates battled back from being down 2-1 in the set count, but came up short in the fifth set, 25-16. Mepham falls to 4-6 in Conference A-III this season.

Boys Badminton: Mepham was edged out by a 4-3 final score at Great Neck North. The Pirates are now 2-6 on the season

EAST MEADOW

Clarke

Football: Clarke has found its fair share of struggles this season, but its home meeting against Oyster Bay (1-3) can be an opportunity to get back on track. Oyster Bay has one win on the season, an overtime victory against North Shore. Look for Clarke quarterback Michael Martiello to have a big game, especially on the ground, against a struggling defensive Oyster Bay unit.

Boys Soccer: After a rough start to the season, Clarke has won its last three games, with the latest coming at home against Valley Stream North by way of a 4-2 win. The Rams have won the trio of games by a combined 15-3 score. On Thursday, Efrain Cruz put in two goals, and Anthony Zaino and Jose Hernandez added a goal each. With four games left and holding on to a 4-5-0 record, Clarke has a solid chance at making the playoffs.

East Meadow

Football: East Meadow has been able to score at record pace this season, a large reason for its 5-0 start. Look for the Jets meeting at home against Baldwin (4-1) to be no different, despite the Bruins coming in on a two-game winning streak. Robbie Healy and James D’Elia will look to find the end zone on the ground against the Baldwin defense.

Boys Soccer: East Meadow dropped a road game to Calhoun by a 4-2 score, with Alex Melnyczuk putting in both goals in the second half for the team. The Jets are 3-5-2 and in fifth place in Conference II, sitting on the brink of the fourth in final playoff spot out of the group.

Girls Soccer: East Meadow tied Baldwin on the road, 1-1, on Thursday, to move its record to 1-8-1 in Conference AA-I. Jenna Borresen pulled the Lady Jets back in the second half with a goal, and Nicole Castro recorded eight saves to preserve the tie.

Boys Volleyball: East Meadow swept Farmingdale on the road, 25-16, 25-12 and 25-6, for its first win on the season (1-9). Dennis Caranante and Ebenezer Obiem led the way with six blocks each on defense. Chris Lutriario led the offense with six kills in the win.

FIVE TOWNS

Hewlett

Football: Hewlett has its work cut out for them on Saturday against undefeated Bethpage (5-0). The Bulldogs will have to load the line of scrimmage to stop a strong and deceptive Golden Eagle rushing attack. With Mark Rizzo out of the last two games, the defense will need to pick up the slack as Bethpage sports a strong defense as well.

Girls Volleyball: Hewlett defeated Valley Stream South by a 3-0 score on Thursday, 25-17, 25-12 and 25-14. Sam DiSalvo led the way in the serving game with seven aces. Hewlett stands at 9-3 on the season in Conference AA-II.

Lawrence

Football: Lawrence will visit Floral Park on Saturday, a team that has been somewhat unpredictable this season. Floral Park (3-2) defeated Lynbrook 7-0 but turned around to lose at Manhasset, a team Lawrence blew out in the season opener. Tyler Fredericks has been scoring at will this season, and mixed in with brothers Ryan and Jordan, along with quarterback Joey Capobianco, the Golden Tornadoes should be a handful to stop.

Boys Soccer: Lawrence fell on the road in a challenging game against Plainedge, 4-1. Carlos Quintanilla scored the only goal in the first half for the Golden Tornadoes. With just three games to go, it looks as if Lawrence could nab the fourth and final playoff spot out of Conference V with a 4-6-1 overall record.

Girls Soccer: Lawrence dropped a tough 3-0 decision to Glen Cove on the road on Thursday. Nicole Robinson stopped eight shots in the effort for the Golden Torandoes, who drop to 2-4-1.

Boys Volleyball: Lawrence dropped its latest match at West Hempstead in straight sets. The team has now lost three consecutive games to fall to 1-7 in Conference IV on the season.

GARDEN CITY

Football: Garden City should be looking at a strong performance against visiting Calhoun (2-3). The Colts have lost two straight and Trojans’ running back Mark Ellis has looked unstoppable this season for his undefeated squad. When Garden City is firing on all cylinders, they are one of the toughest teams on Long Island.

Boys Soccer: Garden City lost a close game to visiting Jericho by a 1-0 score on Thursday. James Pyatsky stopped three shots in the effort. Both Jericho and Garden City stand at 7-2-2 on the season.

LEVITTOWN

Division

Football: Division is coming off of a solid win against Sewanhaka, but Joe Vanasco and the Blue Dragons offense will need to take their talents a step further against a high-scoring Plainedge (2-3) offense, which has scored 40 or more points three times this season. Division has won two in a row after dropping a road game at Lynbrook.

Boys Soccer: Division came up with a dominating road performance at Sewanhaka on Thursday, winning by a 5-1 margin. It is the second time this season in which the Blue Dragons have scored 5 or more goals in a game. Shane McLaughlin scored a hat trick to push his season total to a team-high 16 goals. John Hauschild and Justin Hansen added the other two goals for 8-1-2 Division, which stands in first place in Conference V.

Girls Soccer: Division remained undefeated with a close 1-0 at home against North Shore. Maggie Carew took a pass from Krista Fitzpatrick in the first half for the eventual game-winner. Gina Fader is amongst the leaders in Nassau County, notching another shutout on Thursday, helping Division move to 9-0-1 overall.

Island Trees

Football: Island Trees will need to stop high-powered running back Erin Parker when they meet Roosevelt (4-1) on the road. The Bulldogs have won once this season against North Shore under the leadership of Kyle Nigro and Mike Jeannetti, but they will need to let the defense lead on Saturday to stay in this game.

Boys Soccer: Island Trees tied 2-2 against North Shore on the road Thursday. Top goal scorer J.T. Famularo and Mike Pascale found the back of the net for the Bulldogs. Island Trees remains as one of the top teams in Conference VII with an undefeated 7-0-2 record.

MacArthur

Football: MacArthur has not given up a single point in the last two games and seems to be on a role at the right time. The Generals will meet Hicksville (4-1) in what figures to be one the weekend’s most tightly contested matchups. Look for MacArthur to be able to run the ball against the Comets with Brett Ellers and Tom Kelleher.

Boys Soccer: MacArthur fell in a one-goal game at Baldwin by a 2-1 final score Thursday. Baldwin took a 2-0 lead within the first eight minutes, but the Generals added a second-half goal to cut the deficit. The team falls to 0-7-1 on the season in Conference II.

Girls Soccer: MacArthur defeated the defending New York State champion Massapequa Chiefs for the second time this season on Thursday. The Lady Generals picked up a 2-0 win behind goals from Kelly Kempf and Jill Mullholland. MacArthur is now 8-2-0 on the season and in second place behind Farmingdale in Conference AA-I.

LONG BEACH

Football: Long Beach quarterback Tom Crowley has been one of the top players on Long Island during the past few weeks. He will need to bring more of the same at home against Carey (3-2), which has proven it can score with the best. This game could shape up to be a close one.

Girls Soccer: Long Beach and Valley Stream Central played to a 4-4 tie on Thursday. Four players scored goals for the Lady Marines, including Sharon Hogan, Shannon Romig, Allison Peysner and Lissett Sanchez. Cathryna Hughes stopped 14 shots to help Long Beach advance to 3-5-1.

Boys Badminton: Long Beach defeated Great Neck South on the road by a 5-2 final score, led by Justin Charschan and Tom Hamett. The Marines move to 7-1 on the season.

LYNBROOK

Football: Lynbrook redeemed itself with a win last week after being shut out by Floral Park. The Owls, led by Rocco Scibelli and Luke Spitzer, will look to keep the ball on the ground against Sewanhaka (1-4), which has found its share of trouble this season. Lynbrook has scored 38 or more points in every win this season.

Girls Volleyball: Lynbrook improved its undefeated streak to 12-0 after coming back from 2-1 hole in the set count to defeat Plainedge in five sets. Nicole Millilo was a key factor on the defensive side with 30 digs and Nicolette Franco led the offensive with 10 kills on the day.

MALVERNE

Football: Malverne will try to snap a three-game losing skid against Cold Spring Harbor (3-2), winners of three straight games this season. Malverne will need to step up on the defensive side with Derrick Dixon and company to have any sort of chance against a talent Cold Spring Harbor offense.

MERRICK

Football: Calhoun has its hands full against Garden City (5-0) on the road. The defense has shown shades of improvement, but the defensive line will need to stop Mark Ellis and Patric Berkery to stay in the game. Matt Brennan will continue to throw on offense as Garden City also sports a strong defensive unit.

Boys Soccer: Calhoun defeated visiting East Meadow on Thursday by a 4-2 final. Angelo DiMatteo, who doubles as the kicker for the football team, scored two goals and added an assist in the win. Dylan Delloiacono and Justin Bergman each added a goal as well. Matt Donnelly recorded seven saves to help the Colts move to 5-3-2 on the season.

Girls Soccer: Calhoun continued its dominance in Conference AA-II with a 4-0 win at Plainview JFK. The Lady Colts improved to 9-0-2 overall behind a pair of goals each from Kristina Gandolfo, the team's leader in goals, and Jessica Foley. Alissa Battaglia and Chandler Baltazar combined for a nine-save shutout.

Boys Volleyball: Calhoun dropped three straight sets at Uniondale on Thursday. The Colts fall to 1-7 in Conference I this season.

MINEOLA

Football: Mineola is running into a surging Seaford (3-2) team on Saturday that is looking to get back on track after a slow start. Rob Clarkin and Brian Gaffney will need to find the holes in the defense, while the defensive side will have their hands full with Joe Richards and Alex Rodriguez in the backfield.

Boys Soccer: Mineola defeated visiting Seaford by a 3-0 score Thursday, led by senior captain Christian Lird with a pair of goals. Paul Sandoval added a third goal for insurance. Kevin Mulder stopped three shots and was aided by a strong defense, including Daniel Muller, Andre Cancelinha and Richie Forte, for the seventh shutout of the season. The Mustangs are now 8-1-1 in Conference VII.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE

Football: South Side will need to get running back Eric Willie going to have a shot at a win against Manhasset (3-2). The Indians have shown that they can be run on to an extent -- the Cyclones' opportunity lies with the potential success of the ground game this weekend.

Boys Soccer: Dane Flaherty played hero for South Side boys soccer on its home field, scoring both goals in a 2-1 win over visiting Wantagh. It took 75 minutes for the Cyclones to take the decisive lead, improving their record on the season to 5-3-1. With just two games remaining in the regular season, South Side looks to have solidified its playoff berth with the win.

Girls Soccer: South Side put in two first-half goals on the road against Plainedge. Victoria Reis and Christina Klaum each found the back of the net for the Lady Cyclones. Kelsey Berki stopped six shots to help South Side remain in first place in Conference A-I at 7-1-2.

Girls Volleyball: South Side defeated a scrappy Herricks team on the road in a dramatic five-set mattch. The girls won the match after dropping two of the first three sets. Allison Glass led the way with an impressive 21 kills, as well as 19 digs. Ceanna Mostowfi led on defense with 22 digs to help South Side improve to 7-3 in Conference A-I.

SEAFORD

Football: Seaford has won its last two games after starting 1-2 this season, and the Vikings look to make it three in a row when Mineola (1-3) invites them to Hampton Stadium on Friday night. Joe Richards and Alex Rodriguez will look to seize the opportunity and provide the bulk of the offense for the Vikings under the lights.

Boys Soccer: Seaford was shut out on the road on Thursday afternoon by Mineola, 3-0. Brian Graziose had five saves in the effort as the Vikings drop to 3-5-0 on the season. Seaford has now lost to Mineola twice this season by a combined 5-0 score.

Girls Soccer: Seaford dropped a 3-1 decision to New Hyde Park on the road on Thursday. Jessica Torrent put in the lone goal for the Lady Vikings and Deanna Moore stopped 13 shots on the day to drop to 2-9-1 overall.

WANTAGH

Football: Wantagh will be looking take care of business against New Hyde Park (4-1) after coming off of an emotional overtime victory at Carey last week. Joe Giardina and Matt Balzano will be fed the ball in a matchup featuring two of the conference’s best teams.

Boys Soccer: Wantagh remained tied with South Side on the road until the waning minutes, but a late goal by the Cyclones gave them a 2-1 win on Thursday. Chris Berry scored the lone goal for the Warriors in the first half as the team took a damaging shot at its playoff hopes, falling to 2-7-1 in Conference IV.

WEST HEMPSTEAD

Football: West Hempstead will look to stay atop its conference when the team heads to Locust Valley (5-0). One team will need to fall for the first time this season, but Justin Boatwright, Tayvon Hall and company must take control on offense to avoid their first lost.

Boys Volleyball: West Hempstead swept aside visiting Lawrence on Thursday to advance to 4-3 in Conference IV this season. Eric Finkelstein led the way with 30 assists. Pat D’Hati and Juan Romero combined for 18 kills in the dominating win.
