Little League: The North Bellmore-North Merrick 10-11 little league team was recently honored this week at Piccolo’s Restaurant. The Rebels, who won the Long Island title and competed in the New York State tournament during the summer, received their championship trophies, jackets and congratulations certificates from Senator Fuschillo’s office.

Football: The Cougars have won two weeks in a row after an 0-3 start following a 34-28 win at home against Carle Place/Wheatley on Thursday night. It took another late comeback to win as Kennedy trailed 28-7 in the third quarter. The team rifled off four straight touchdowns, starting with a 30-yard touchdown run by Matt Delbianco. Chris Racalbuto then threw three fourth quarter touchdowns, including a 38-yard strike to Ralph Faiella, his second score of the game, to come out on top under the lights.

FIVE TOWNSHewlett
Football: Every time Hewlett was able to answer, Lynbrook responded to keep its distance, as the Owls topped the visiting Bulldogs, 40-21. Hewlett was without quarterback Mark Rizzo for the second straight game, as the team fell to 3-2 in Conference III. Weldon Irvine scored off of a pass from Zach Richman and both Sam Martorella and Jeremy Leguillo added rushing touchdowns in the effort.

LEVITTOWNMiddle School: The Salk Middle School eighth-grade football won its season opener 26-19 over Merrick Avenue. The team was able to pull out a great win, led by Jimmy Kelleher’s 134 passing yards, including a 60-yard touchdown pass to Nick Pernice, who also had a rushing score, and a key 30-yard completion to Justin Cancel. Jeremy Hughes and Carlos Correia combined for 130 rushing yards on 24 carries. Jared Wolfe added a 10-yard touchdown run and played great defense, along with Danny Clyne (one interception), Bobby Garrofolo, Phil Razza, Charlie Papenhausen, Kyle Zangrillo and Danny Joyce. Salk’s next game is on Monday, 10/17, at Levittown Memorial against Wantagh.

MacArthur
Football: The Generals played an exceptional game at home with a 31-0 shutout of Uniondale, their second shutout in a row and fourth win in as many weeks. Brett Ellers scored twice on the ground and Tom Kelleher ran and threw for a touchdown, with Will Chesire scoring on a 30-yard pass. MacArthur has high playoff hopes and looks to battle with Freeport and East Meadow for the title.

LYNBROOKFootball: Lynbrook ran by Hewlett at home on Thursday night by a 40-21 final to improve its record to 4-1 in Conference III. Rocco Scibelli led the Owls with 183 yards on the ground and a touchdown. Quarterback Luke Spitzer didn’t have to pass much, as he added 138 yards on the ground with three rushing scores. The defense, led by Matt Trotta and Matt Mott, forced four turnovers, including an interception returned for a touchdown by Kenny Jorge.
ROCKVILLE CENTREFootball: South Side had a tough game against the Conference III first place team Bethpage, dropping a 43-6 decision. Zach Scaduto returned a kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, his second in as many games. The Golden Eagles picked up the pressure against the visiting Cyclones, who now drop to a 1-4 record on the season.
SEAFORDFootball: Seaford has now won back-to-back games to improve its record to 3-2 in Conference IV following a dramatic 17-14 win at home against East Rockaway on Thursday night. The visiting Rocks took the lead twice in the first half, but a pair of touchdown runs by Joe Richards, who finished with 155 yards, brought the Vikings back both times. A 14-14 tie was broken after Seaford kicker Matt Murphy put a 21-yarder through the uprights following a great 90-yard drive to seal the last-second victory.
