and former New York Ranger hockey players, the Ferraro brothers, are
bringing the ice to East Meadow in the form of a state-of-the-art sports
and recreation center.
Located in the center of Eisenhower Park,
"the Twin Rinks will be an 85,000 square foot world-class facility with
two NHL regulation-sized rinks and one outdoor recreational hockey rink
that will host skating lessons, youth player development programs,
tournaments and hockey teams for all ages and skill levels," according
to the New York Post.
turf field, basketball court, a handball wall and
rollerblading/stroller path are also part of the project, which is to be
completed in four stages. While
the center will be located in a county park, when first mentioned in
July 2012, Mangano spokesman Brian Nevin said, "the county would spend
no money on this project, but enter into a revenue-sharing agreement
with the operators to generate additional revenue to help the county
hold the line on property taxes."
A groundbreaking is set for later this week.
and Peter Ferraro became the second set of identical twins to play on
the same NHL team during the 1995-96 NHL season. The Ferraro brothers
grew up in Port Jefferson.
