Lady Mules Slow to Start Against Seahawks

Malverne girls varsity basketball lose to Cold Spring Harbor.

The Lady Mules got off to a slow start against conference headliner Cold Spring Harbor Friday afternoon.

They were never able to recover as the Lady Seahawks went on to win the game 40-26.

"We played sloppy to start off the game and they were able to take advantage," said Coach Mike Pelan.

The Lady Seahawks were up 23-8 at half before Malverne woke up and began to play with more authority.

"We definitely won the second half," said Pelan. "We need that consistency throughout the game though. That's the key."

Amanda Masson led the Lady Mules with 10 points.

Masson and Eighth grader Alexis Lopez had a tough time on the defensive side on the ball battling the taller Seahawk forwards.

"Their bigger starters gave us a lot of trouble and we had a hard time getting the ball in the paint," said Pelan.

"It is a learning process and each game we come out tougher and smarter than the last time."

The Lady Mules are now 2-10 (1-8) and will play at East Rockaway Tuesday at 7:15pm
