Local Jets Fans Kept Hopes High

Patch spoke with Jets fans at local pubs in Malverne and West Hempstead during Sunday's playoff game.

It was the worst of times, then it got somewhat better...

The Jets did not bring their best game to Heinz Field Sunday night as they lost the AFC title to the Pittsburgh Steelers, but Gang Green fans never lost hope.

Patch went bar-hopping to some of the pubs in Malverne and West Hempstead during the game to check in with local Jets fans as they celebrated the second-half comeback, screamed at the TV sets and practiced positive affirmations to try to get their team to the Superbowl.

Speaking as a Jets fan since 1965, I know what disappointment feels like. Seeing numerous couches come and go, I feel it safe to say that I feel that Rex Ryan has by far given us the best chance to win it all. Yes, even better than Parcells. Who else could have taken us to back to back championship games? Still, we came up short. Mainly due to the fact that the entire team, both offence, defence and special teams came out "flat" in the entire first half, opening the door to Pittsburgh. Twenty four points are a lot to overcome, and thirty minutes is not a lot of time to do it in. Still, the team made a valient effort and almost was successful. Overall, I think this was an outstanding season for the team, the fans and Woody Johnson. The franchise is in a good place, far better than ever before. Will the same team be back next season? Probably not. However the core values are in place, as well as most of the core players. I know that Rex will lead the team back once again, and will not stop until the ultimate goal is reached. This season's team showed the rest of the league that the New York Jets are for real, and a great team to play for.
