Lynbrook Girls Volleyball Team Competes in County Championships

By Rosemary Leonetti

After beating Mineola in five games in the Class B semifinals on Nov. 2, the Lynbrook girls volleyball team went on to face Seaford in the finals on Nov. 7.

Although victory was not theirs in that matchup, they put on an impressive show, with scores of 11-25, 25-19, 21-25 and 18-25 in four hard-fought games, finishing second in the Class B county finals.

Under the leadership of team captains Michelle Pender and Nicole Milillo and coach Vanessa Jeremenko, the team finished their regular season with a 9-3 record, securing a berth in the playoffs.

“Michelle is a great leader who is great at communicating verbally with the team,” said Jeremenko. “Nicole is more of a visual leader. She picks up the slack for the team and pushes them to all work harder and stay focused. As a pair they are great team captains and are very respected and loved by their teammates. With their strength at the net, middles Shannon Wren and Bridget Kelly helped us get through the tough games.”
