Jang had an impressive high school career for Lynbrook - he received the 2009 Paul E. Krause Memorial Award and was a New York State Championship competitor. He was also named team MVP his junior and senior years and holds the Lynbrook HS record for indoor shot put, according to the Farmingdale State College website.

The object of the hammer throw is to throw a heavy metal ball attached to a wire and handle as far as possible - like the shot put, the hammer throw is decided on who can throw the ball the farthest.
