Lynbrook Grad Takes Second Place in Hammer Throw

Farmingdale State junior Mike Jang impressed at the Queens College Invitational.

Farmingdale State College junior Mike Jang, a 2009 graduate of , recently took home second place in the hammer throw at the Queens College Invitational outdoor track event.

Jang's throw of 51.70m moves him to second on the all-time list at Farmingdale State and qualifies him for ECAC's.

Jang had an impressive high school career for Lynbrook - he received the 2009 Paul E. Krause Memorial Award and was a New York State Championship competitor. He was also named team MVP his junior and senior years and holds the Lynbrook HS record for indoor shot put, according to the Farmingdale State College website.

The object of the hammer throw is to throw a heavy metal ball attached to a wire and handle as far as possible - like the shot put, the hammer throw is decided on who can throw the ball the farthest.

Junior Edward Brown was the only one who had a better throw than Jang, taking first place and improving his own school record with a 53.68m throw.

Farmingdale State College will compete next at the Ramapo Roadrunner Invitational on Friday, April 6 to Saturday, April 7 at Ramapo College in Mahwah, N.J.
