Lynbrook Owls Defeat Bethpage, 33-0

Two touchdowns in 19 seconds lead varsity squad to victory in season's first game.

The Lynbrook Owls scored the winning touchdown just four minutes into their Sept. 7 game versus the Bethpage Golden Eagles, but would continue to dominate en route to a 33-0 victory in the team's first game of the season. The game was held at Marion Street School in Lynbrook.

Five different players scored for the Owls, while their defense repeatedly smothered the Golden Eagles' running attack.

In the 1st quarter, running back Kendall Bruton caught a short pass and ran it in for a score to make it 6-0 (the extra point was blocked). Just seconds later, after pinning the Golden Eagles at their own 20 yard line, the Owls recovered a fumble at the line of scrimmage. Two plays — and 19 seconds —later, running back Mike Kozlakowski ran it in from four yards out to make it 12-0 (the Owls missed the extra point).

On the first play of the 2nd quarter, quarterback Paul Magloire broke free for a 61-yard touchdown run. The Owls added a two-point conversion to make it 20-0. Moments later, the Owls recovered another fumble deep in Golden Eagles' territory, with Matt Trotta returning it for a touchdown, making it 27-0.

In the second half, the Golden Eagles were able to slow the Owls' attack, holding them to one touchdown — a 74-yard run by running back Rocco Scibelli — but still couldn't produce any offense.

The Owls' next game will be against Plainedge High School on Thursday, Sept. 16 at 4:45 p.m. The game will be held at Hofstra University.
