Lynbrook Student Awarded National Honor Society Scholarship

Lynbrook High School senior Timothy Keegan was chosen based on his academic record, among many other accomplishments.

Lynbrook High School senior Timothy Keegan has been named one of 150 state finalists in the NASSP's National Honor Society scholarship program. He was chosen for this honor from among nearly 6,000 applicants.

Participating National Honor Society high school chapters from across the country each nominated two senior members to compete in the program. Keegan was chosen as a finalist on the basis of his academic record, leadership skills and participation in service organizations, clubs and other student groups at school and in the community.

The salutatorian of the Class of 2012, Keegan is a National Merit Scholar, an AP
Scholar, a varsity basketball player, an All-County vocalist and a writer for his school newspaper, Horizon.

Currently the president of Lynbrook High School’s Drama Club, Keegan has appeared in numerous dramatic and musical productions over the last four years. In addition, Keegan is a boys state delegate and a leader in his school's Athletes Creating Excellence (A.C.E.) program.

Keegan's extracurricular activities further include tutoring, a past internship at the New York City Public Defender's Office and refereeing at Long Island Lutheran's Youth Basketball Camp.

"We are proud to recognize Timothy for his outstanding achievements and contributions to his school," said David Cordts, Associate Director of NHS, in an official press release. "In recognizing leadership and involvement in student activities as well as strong academic performance, the NHS scholarship acknowledges the importance of a well-rounded education."
