“Our girls really wanted to win the Arch Capital Group Cup,” said Lynbrook/East Rockaway coach PJ O’Doherty.

Lynbrook/East Rockaway also received the Howard Rubenstein Sportsmanship Award. Now living in Ohio, Rubenstein was seemingly involved in every facet of New York soccer for decades and is a member of the Halls of Fame of Eastern New York, the US Amateur Soccer Association and the Long Island Junior Soccer League.

The cup was sponsored by Arch Capital Group, which writes insurance and reinsurance on a worldwide basis through operations in the United States, Bermuda, Canada and Europe.

“This cup competition is a great event in that it gives young people an opportunity to experience high levels of competition,” said Brian Hughes, Senior Vice President and Chief Actuary of Arch Capital.

The non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) stretches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border. It is made up of 123,843 youth soccer players––68,587 boys and 55,256 girls––and more than 25,000 volunteers.
