PHOTOS: Malverne Mohawks Enjoy Day of Laxing

The youth lacrosse program hosts match-ups and kid-friendly activities.

While many residents probably spent Saturday relaxing, the Malverne Mohawks were laxing the day away.

It was the program's annual youth lacrosse event on May 21, which included hours of local match-ups, fun activities for families and a celebration of community and friendly competition.

The third grade boys team kicked off the festivities at 9 a.m. with a game against Mineola and a clinic for younger players at half-time. Throughout the day - until 5 p.m., boys and girls from Grades 3 through 8 took to the field, taking on teams from Lynbrook, New Hyde Park, Franklin Square and Hewlett. Among them was Malverne's undefeated seventh and eighth grade girls team,  known as the "Chicks With Sticks."

Meanwhile, the young athletes and their families also enjoyed tackling the inflatable obstacle course, taking a shot at the dunk tank and indulging in some food and refreshments.
