Playoffs: Lynbrook Drops Manhasset, 42-0

Owls utilize entire 70-man roster in win; take on Plainedge this Friday.

Lynbrook needed only touchdown to eliminate Manhasset from the playoffs on Saturday, but it added five more for good measure.

Led by three rushing touchdowns from quarterback Paul Magloire, the Owls defeated the Indians, 42-0, at Marion Street Field in Lynbrook to advance in the Nassau County Conference III playoffs. They will take on Plainedge — which defeated Bethpage, 17-6, on Saturday — in the semifinals on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Hofstra University.

"The team played fantastic today," said Owls coach Steve Locicero, who benched his starters in the second half with Lynbrook up 35-0. "I think the most special part is when you can get all of 70 kids into a game with substantial time and they all play well. It really is very gratifying to the coaching staff and the community, so it's a really special win."

The Owls struck early on a 21-yard touchdown run by Travis Lock just three minutes into the game, giving them a 7-0 lead. From there, Lynbrook's defense went to work — forcing Manhasset to punt on all of its possessions in the first half (except its last one, when time ran out in the half).

Magloire had two 5-yard runs and a 21-yard run for touchdowns in the first half, and Mike Kozlakowski added a 6-yard score of his own, to give Lynbrook a dominating 35-0 lead at halftime.

Owls backup quarterback Steven Marrandino added a 28-yard touchdown run to make the score 42-0, with 5:28 remaining in the game.

Magloire said he was happy that everyone on the team got to play in the playoff game, which, for graduating seniors, was also their last game on home turf.

"We just wanna get everyone on the field," Magloire said. "We play for each other, we really don't play for the scoreboard or anything else."

Speaking on Friday's game against Plainedge, Magloire said they'll be ready. "We don't overlook nobody," he said. "We're just gonna work hard in practice and just bring it. That's it, bring it."
