Preview: Mules Football Raises Expectations

The Malverne High School varsity football team looks to be more competitive in tough Conference Four.

The Malverne Mules varsity football is on a two-game winning streak.

After besting North Shore Saturday and earning a win by forfeit, the Mules are starting off their season undefeated. Coming off a 2-6 record in 2010, Malverne expects to be more competitive in their conference this year.

"We bring back some solid players on both sides of the ball," said Head Coach Kito Lockwood. "Even though we're seeded 11th out of 14 teams in the conference we'll be competitive against each and every team."

Junior Tyrae Kelly is back in the wide receiver spot and Alton Kelly will alternate between the tight end position and defensive end.

"We will definitely have a lot of athleticism on the offensive side of the ball," siad Lockwood.

Seniors Mike Lucchese, Jeremy Sarnataro and Dwayne Lacroix will anchor the offensive line.

Sidney Thevenot will be a big body on the defensive side of the ball.

"We have some good returning seniors and we have some underclassmen who are a little inexperienced but we expect them to come right in and be able to compete," Lockwood added.

The Mules will play Locust Valley at home at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17.
