Preview: Rams Boys Basketball Looks for Strong Start

West Hempstead's boys varsity basketball will have their work cut out for them in a tough Triple A Conference.

The Rams might not have the size they did last year after losing Jamel Flash, but their speed will be on full display this season.

"We are an athletic team from one to 12," said Head Coach Ed Cosgrove. "We will play a lot of up-tempo basketball and look to run and push the ball, making it more of a full court game and less of a half."

Head Coach: Ed Cosgrove

Key Losses: Jamel Flash, Daniel Minto

Expectations: After going 3-14 last year the Rams will look to improve upon that record this season. They lost their 6'11 big man Jamel Flash to graduation, but will return with the core nucleus of their team, led by Captain Greg Cecere. Darnell Davy will also be back at the guard position.

First Game: Dec. 3 at Valley Stream North High School

News and Notes: Some of the biggest help might come from three new additions, sophomore players, Ousmane Camara, Tyree Glascoe and Tayvon Hill.

"They will bring a lot of athleticism and energy to our team," said Coach Cosgrove. "We will be looking to run and press more with all of the guards we have.  We are going to have to rely on speed and athletic ability.

"This is probably one of the deepest teams we've had since our 2003 All County team," he added.
