Preview: West Hempstead Girls Basketball Returns With Key Starters

The Lady Rams look to improve on last years 3-9 league record.

The Lady Rams basketball team can only get better this season. They return every one of their starters including senior star Sarah Njoku.

"The whole team has worked to improve on last year's record," said Head Coach Chris Van Kovics. "Sarah was a great inside presence for us last season and we will need her on the boards again this year."

Expectations: "We worked on a lot of things to get better as a team in our practices," said Sarah Njoku. "We are hopeful for a real amazing season."

"Our main goal is just try to get better everyday," said Coach Van Kovics. "We  did not lose anybody from last year's squad, so that same team chemistry should be there. We just have to work better together as a unit."

First Game: Dec. 4 at Port Washington

News and Notes:

It will be a tough year for the Lady Rams as they will again face the three perennial playoff teams Lawrence, Great Neck North and Glen Cove. It should not be considered a rebuilding season though as the Rams will bring back all of their players from last year.

"We did have 15 girls come out for varsity this year, which is a pretty big number," said Van Kovics. "That definitely bodes well for the future of West Hempstead basketball."
