Rams Fall to Cougars in Volleyball Quarterfinals

West Hempstead's varsity girls squad is swept by John F. Kennedy H.S. of Bellmore in quarterfinals.

The West Hempstead High School girls varsity volleyball team ended its playoff run Thursday night, suffering a three-game sweep delivered by a tough, second-seeded squad from John F. Kennedy High School in Bellmore.

The seventh-seeded Rams put up a fight to the finish in each game, even tying the score five times in Game 3 alone, but couldn't overpower the Cougars. Their opponent, which had a bye in the first round of the Class A playoffs, came in well-rested and ready to attack. They shut down the Rams, which lost the first three consecutive games: 25-17, 25-13 and 25-22.

Despite the loss, West Hempstead head coach Suzanne Kenney was positive about the girls' season.

"We had a good year," she said. "We played in the toughest conference in the county, and improved every day. Our effort level and desire tonight showed that."

The Lady Rams ended the regular season with a record of 1-9, getting their at home during "Senior Night." They in the first round of the playoffs and ended with an overall record of 3-10.
