Kennedy

Boys Basketball: Kennedy lost a close one to Westbury on the road Friday by a 56-53 final score. Chad Fuschillo scored 18 points, including four three-pointers, for the Cougars. Chris Racalbuto added 11 points in the effort.

Girls Basketball: Kennedy defeated Westbury in the league opener on Friday by a 45-35 final score. Heather Hulkower scored a game-high 18 points on nine field goals and Victoria Ferry added 13 points in the win. It was the first victory this season for the Lady Cougars.

Wrestling: Kennedy defeated Bethpage in a dual meet on Friday, 48-19. Ten different Cougars picked up victories to cruise to the win on the day. John Luxmore clinched the match with a pin at 182 pounds.

Bowling: The Bellmore-Merrick boys defeated Division on Thursday by a 2-1 final. Joe Cucinella bowled a 246 in the middle set and Tom Bianco tallied a 258 in the opening set.

Swimming: The Bellmore-Merrick swim team edged out Sewanhaka in a Thursday meet, 94-85. Robert Cahn led the team with wins in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle and Austin Kowalsky contributed with wins in the 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly events. The team then defeated Great Neck North, 92-83, on Friday. The highlight of the match was Kowalsky swimming a time in the 50 and 100 freestyles to qualify him for the state championships.

Mepham

Boys Basketball: Mepham lost its first game of the season in the league opener against Long Beach on Friday by a 56-46 final. J.T. Elsasser scored 11 points to lead the 3-1 Pirates. Kyle Wechsler was limited to just six points on the day.

Girls Basketball: Mepham defeated Long Beach on Friday by a 56-40 final score. Kristen O’Brien, one of the Nassau County leading scorers last season, scored a game-high 21 points along with 10 rebounds, and Nicole Castaldo added 11 points for 3-0 Mepham.

Wrestling: Mepham finished in sixth place as a team at the Terry Haise Tournament at Freeport. Louis Hernandez won first place for the Pirates at 145 pounds and Jamie Dunn took second place at 106 pounds.  

Clarke

Girls Basketball: Clarke fell in a Friday game to Valley Stream North by a 54-27 final score. Danielle Ferrara scored a team-high 10 points for the Lady Rams, who are still in search of their first win this season. 

Bowling: The Clarke boys team defeated district rival East Meadow by a 2-1 score on Thursday. Glenn Degennaro bowled a game-high 236 in the decisive second set for the Rams. The girls side lost to East Meadow by a 2-1 score on the day.

East Meadow

Boys Basketball: East Meadow lost a close one at Port Washington on Thursday by a 51-48 final. The Vikings took over the lead with a minute remaining in regulation. Joe Campay led the Jets with 20 points on the day.

Girls Basketball: East Meadow lost a game to Port Washington at home on Friday by a 40-31 final score. Jenn Gundrum scored a game-high 18 points, but it was not enough to get the Lady Jets a win in the league opener.

Wrestling: East Meadow finished second as a team on Saturday at the Terry Haise Tournament at Freeport, with Commack finishing just ahead in first place. Vinny Pannullo (120), Evan Pantofel (170) and Nolan Travis (182) won first place titles for the Jets.

Bowling: The girls side defeated Clarke on Thursday by a 2-1 score. Danielle Tuthill recorded a game-high score of 204 to open the match. The Lady Jets are now 5-1 on the season. The boys side lost to Clarke by a 2-1 score on the day.

Boys Basketball: East Rockaway fell to Friends Academy in the Conference opener by a 38-30 final. David McClure was the lone Rocks player in double-digits with 11 points. Kevin Blessington added eight points in the effort.

Girls Basketball: East Rockaway edged out Friends Academy, 43-41, in a back-and-forth game on Friday. The Lady Rocks pulled away in a decisive 17-5 third quarter and were able to hold on in the end. Shannon Pujol led the way with 13 points in the win.

Hewlett

Boys Basketball: Hewlett was defeated for the first time in four tries this season after a 63-48 loss to Jericho on the road Friday. The Bulldogs led by one at the half, but were outscored 29-13 in the third quarter. Harrison Brenner led the way with 18 points and Avery Feldman had 10 points in the effort.

Wrestling: Hewlett fell short in a dual meet to Sachem North on Saturday, 56-29. Simon Greebel, Robert Rosenberg and Troy Smith were some of the Bulldogs to pick up wins on the day.

Bowling: The Hewlett boys team defeated Lynbrook on Thursday by a close 2-1 score. Robert Presser led the now 3-3 Bulldogs in the win. Just six pins decided the opening set -- 802-796 -- in favor of Hewlett.

Swimming: Hewlett edged out Cold Spring Harbor in a Friday swim meet at home, 54-49. Matt Salcedo won two races for the Bulldogs, including the 500 freestyle and the 200 individual medley. Alex Belluccia picked up wins in both the 50 and 100 freestyle events. 

Lawrence

Boys Basketball: Eddie Robinson broke a career-high set last week (32) with a new career-high of 41 points in an 82-72 win over St. John the Baptist. Dwayne Daniel tied his career-high with 28 points as he and Robinson provided 69 of the 82 team points. Lawrence trailed by one heading into the fourth, but scored 33 points in the final quarter to win and improve to 4-0.

Lawrence Woodmere Academy

Boys Basketball: Lawrence Woodmere Academy easily defeated Soloman Schechter in private school competition, 70-47. LWA scored 31 points in the first quarter alone to move to 7-1 on the season. Jake Lundenberg led with 19 points, including five three-pointersl. Rokas Lapsys added 16 and Trent Parrish had 15 in the win.

Girls Basketball: Garden City played in two close games last week. The Lady Trojans defeated St. Mary’s by a 43-39 final after trailing by 15 at halftime. On Saturday, Garden City lost to Manhasset, 51-49. Sam Auricchio scored a team-high 14 points and Kim Ryan added 13 points. The duo had eight combined three pointers in the effort. Garden City is now 6-1 on the season.

Division

Girls Basketball: Division lost to Wantagh on the road Thursday, 47-38. The Lady Blue Dragons led by six at the half, but conceded control in the second half to the Lady Warriors. Laura Stuart scored a team-high 13 points and Taylor Calabrese added 11. 

Island Trees

Boys Basketball: Island Trees lost to Seaford at home on Friday afternoon in the league opener by a 56-50 final score. Joe Howard scored 12 tough points on six field goals and both Vinny Vetrone and C.J. Novak added 10 points in the effort.

Girls Basketball: Island Trees defeated Seaford at home on Saturday by a 40-33 final. Nicole Pellegrino led the Lady Bulldogs with 16 points, including five three-pointers. Island Trees is now 4-0 on the season and will prepare for the KSA Holiday Tournament in Orlando, Florida, after Christmas time.

Wrestling: Island Trees dominated at the Paul P. Grammatico Tournament at Valley Stream South on Saturday, coming in first place as a team by more than 200 points ahead of second-place Babylon. The Bulldogs crowned eight champions on the day, including Thomas Sinclair (220), Matt Gund (113), Billy Ziegler (160) and Lucas Panebainco (138).

MacArthur

Boys Basketball: MacArthur lost a close game to Calhoun on the road this past Friday by a final score of 41-36. William Cheshire scored a game-high 14 points, including four three-pointers, for the Generals.

Girls Basketball: MacArthur defeated Calhoun at home on Friday by a 45-28 final. Vanessa Wyckoff led the team with 17 points along with 10 rebounds and Jenna Cozza added 12 points in the win. The result moves the Lady Generals to 3-0 overall on the season.

Boys Basketball: Long Beach defeated Mepham in the Conference AA-III opener by a 56-46 final score. Daryl Brown led the way for the Marines in the scoring column with 22 points and Tariq Cole added 21 points and 12 rebounds. The win was the first for Long Beach this season.

Girls Basketball: Long Beach fell to undefeated Mepham on Friday by a 56-40 final score to open up its league schedule. Molly Martin scored a team-high 10 points, but the Lady Marines could not stop the Lady Pirates down the stretch.

Wrestling: Long Beach went 1-1 at the David Bloom Memorial Duals at Wantagh on Saturday. The Marines defeated New Rochelle, 43-30, but then lost to Sachem North, 43-25. Steven and Krishna Sewkumar, Mark Raghunandan, Oral Allen and Liam Fitpatrick all won two matches on the day.

Boys Basketball: Lynbrook dropped its fourth game in a row to start the season after a 64-61 loss to Great Neck North on Friday. Mike McVeigh scored 19 points, including five three-pointers, Patrick Geiger had 17 points, including four three-pointers, and Johnny Emmerich added 12 points. Three of the Lynbrook losses were by a combined eight points. 

Girls Basketball: Lynbrook defeated Great Neck North by a 56-30 score on Friday. The Lady Owls led by a 33-12 margin at the half to cruise to the win. Brooke Gerstman led the team with a game-high 26 points, including six three-pointers, and Danielle Amaya added 13 points in the effort.

Wrestling: Lynbrook competed at the South Side Cyclone Tournament this past weekend, claiming two championships. Matt Mott won first place at 195 pounds after a 25-second pin in the finals and received the ‘Most Pins, Least Time’ award (three in 1:30). Jon Espinosa won first place at 285 pounds for the Owls as well.

Bowling: The Lynbrook girls team swept aside Baldwin on Thursday, led by Jennifer Ackerman, to bring the Lady Owls to a 5-1 overall record this season. The boys side fell to Hewlett by a 2-1 score on the day.

Boys Basketball: Malverne defeated Wheatley on the road by a 60-46 margin Friday to open up the Conference BC schedule. Andre Berry, Aaron Jackson and Tim Pruewitt all reached double-digits, with Berry leading the way with 22 points.

Girls Basketball: Malverne lost to Wheatley on Friday by a 44-37 final score in the Conference BC opener. Amanda Masson scored a team-high 14 points in the effort for Malverne. Karen Ulisse added eight points on the day.

Bowling: The Malverne boys team topped Valley Stream Central by a 2-1 score on Thursday. Zachary Borodin rolled a game high 231 in a third game that Malverne won 894-685 to clinch the match and move to 5-1.

Boys Basketball: Calhoun upset MacArthur on Friday by a 41-36 final score at home. The Colts seized control of the game in the third quarter and did not look back. Tommy Murphy scored a team-high 12 points for 1-2 Calhoun.

Girls Basketball: Calhoun dropped its league opener on the road to MacArthur on Friday. Danielle Losee scored a team-high 10 points, but a 20-4 third quarter deficit did the Lady Colts in. Calhoun is now 2-2 on the season.

Chaminade

Boys Basketball: Chaminade topped Roslyn at home on Thursday by just four points, 61-57. The Flyers scored the last seven points of the game, including a game-tying three-pointer by Brian Earhardt (12 points). Patrick Farrell scored a game-high 18 points and 12 rebounds and Mike Walsh added 14 points. Chaminade then defeated Xavier on Saturday at the Oceanside Christopher Credit Union Christmas Challenge by a 50-47 final. Farrell led the way with 15 points, Walsh had 13 points and 14 rebounds, John Gallego had 12 points and six assists, and Earhardt added 10 points.

Bowling: The Chaminade boys team swept St. Dominic on Thursday afternoon. Andrew Fenn and Phil Loeschinger led the 7-0 Flyers to victory.

Mineola

Boys Basketball: Mineola defeated North Shore on the road 67-63 Friday. Brian Gaffney scored a team-high 20 points, and both Mike Waszchuk and Malcolm Brown added 15 points for the 2-1 Mustangs.

Wrestling: Mineola defeated Carle Place in a dual meet on Thursday afternoon, 63-21. Luigi Miranda picked up a first-period pin for the Mustangs in the 160-pound weight class.

Bowling: The Mineola boys team swept North Shore on Thursday, led by P.J. Kelly with a 215 in the final game. The Mustangs are now 2-4 overall on the season. The girls team was swept by Carle Place.

Boys Basketball: South Side fell over the weekend to Holy Trinity in the Oceanside Christopher Credit Union Christmas Challenge, 67-54. Ryan Spadaford had 15 points, including four three-pointers, Bobby Akerson added 11 points and Robert Pichioni had 10 points. The loss was the first on the season for the Cyclones (3-1).

Boys Basketball: Seaford defeated Island Trees in the Conference A-IV opener by a 56-50 final on Friday. Sophomore James Curley scored a game-high 17 points, with Rich Dipuma adding 14 in the effort. Seaford is now 2-1 overall on the season.

Girls Basketball: Seaford fell on the road to Island Trees on Saturday by a 40-33 final score. Jessica Rini scored a game-high 17 points as the Lady Vikings move to 2-2 on the season.

Wrestling: Seaford won the Ralph Jansson Memorial Tournament on Saturday, edging out Valley Stream North. The Vikings crowned two champions on the day. 

Boys Basketball: Wantagh played top-notch basketball in a convincing 56-38 win over visiting Roosevelt. Gerard Roche scored a game-high 20 points and Justice Perez added 13 points and 12 rebounds. Brendan Devine also grabbed 12 rebounds for 2-3 Wantagh.

Girls Basketball: Wantagh defeated Division for its first win of the season, 47-38. Tara Basile led the Lady Warriors with 14 points and Alex Parlato added 12 points and 14 rebounds in the effort. Wantagh outscored Division 31-16 in the second half.

Bowling: The Wantagh boys team swept Plainedge on Thursday, collecting more than 800 pins in all three sets. David Zaitz bowled a game-high 279 in the middle game, followed by Ryan Fiorillo with a 277 in the opening game for the 5-1 Warriors. 

Bowling: The West Hempstead girls team fell 2-1 in a close match to Valley Stream South on Thursday.
