VIDEO: Voters Share Thoughts on Coliseum Bond

Turnout low at Malverne and West Hempstead polls Monday afternoon.

The polls in Malverne and West Hempstead were pretty quiet Monday afternoon but some residents did turnout to cast their votes on Nassau County's $400 million bond referendum.

Most who spoke with Patch were supportive of the bond, which would include up to $350 million to pay for the construction of a new Nassau Coliseum, even though it would raise their taxes - roughly $14 per year for the average household, according to one report from independent Office of Legislative Budget Review (OLBR).

Although we found a few critics, the majority of residents who shared their thoughts with us, said this is the price they feel they must pay to keep the sports arena, the NY Islanders hockey team and jobs in the County.
