Lynbrook Children Participate in Summer Playground Program

The half-day program ran from July 1 to August 9.

Lynbrook children entering grades K-8 once again enjoyed a fun and enriching summer at the Lynbrook Public Schools Summer Playground Program, held this year at Waverly Park and North Middle schools.

The half-day program, held from July 1 through Aug. 9, offered recreational activities, arts and crafts, and special events, including a field day, carnival and pizza party.

Lauren Reganato, the home and careers teacher at Lynbrook High School, provided cooking classes for all of the campers in grades 1-8. Hair artist Alison Artz offered hair designs. As always, ice cream was distributed at the conclusion of the day each Friday.

This year, the district joined forces with Jet Blue and Random House Children’s Books to present the “Soar with Summer Reading” assembly. A Jet Blue pilot and flight attendant spoke about their jobs and promoted summer reading with downloadable resources and a book giveaway.

One of the highlights of the summer was the annual talent show, in which students took to the stage to sing and dance to pop favorites such as Daft Punk’s “One More Time,” Psy’s “Gangnam Style” and Icona Pop’s “I Love It.” Counselors Gia Rossi and Julia Sarnataro worked with the groups to stage the choreography.

The children also participated in field trips to Greis Park, Color Nails, Sandee Lanes, Woodmere Lanes, Hot Skates, Fun Station, The Ultimate Sundae, Once Upon a Sundae, Party Mania, Turf Island and Plaza Theatrical Productions.

The Summer Playground Program is open to the children of all Lynbrook School District and Village of Lynbrook residents.
