Netflix Inc. will increase subscription prices for new customers by $1 or $2 while existing customers will continue at their current rate – for now.

U.S. streaming subscribers pay $7.99, CNN Money reported, and Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said that "If we want to continue to expand, to do more great original content...we have to eventually increase prices a little bit."

The price increase for new customers would come in the next month or so, Reuters reported. As for existing customers, Reuters reported that Hastings said prices would stay the same for a year or two.

Netflix reported earnings of 86 cents a share on sales of $1.27 billion, CNBC reported.

Netflix has begun producing its own original series including the acclaimed 'House of Cards' starring Kevin Spacey and the popular 'Orange is the New Black.'

CNN Money reported that Netflix added 2.25 million new streaming customers so far this year. Overall it has 36 million subscribers in the U.S.

Funny how Netflix is the "bad boy" yet those that offer more commercials than the movie itself are just fine :) Cable today is pure garbage, a 2 hr movie will last half the night with all those commercials and since all sports from all countries, could be seen live over the internet...cable is obsolete. Netflix is weak but is a fine alternative to cable for now. (as for news, please, you must be brain-dead to get your news from cable...with all of them all over you from second you start the computer to turn on the radio to even the second you "check" the e-mail on the phone. so Reuters don't worry about Netflix, worry about cable companies whose stocks should be worth a little more than half an ounce of dirt

Where are the stories about the rates charged by the Cable cartels-???---Especially Leftist, Democratic Comcast, the premier robber barons, who fill the campaign tills of the Dumocrats.

Netflix is hands down the best deal going, and it has been a bargain for YEARS. I guess the nonsensical whiners who complain about a long-delayed, $2 a MONTH increase are worried it will cost them a (partial) SINGLE LATTE. Utterly ridiculous.

TO MICHAEL BRENNICK: Leftist, Democra... WHAT? You think Comcast is part of the so-called "liberal" media (which, by the way, doesn't even exist)? Are you freakin' KIDDIN' me? [shakes head in disbelief] Wow. The FOX NEWS CHANNEL should be held criminally liable for what it has done to your brain.

FOR THOSE WHO LIKE AMAZON PRIME OVER NETFLIX: Here's an interesting article from today (23 Apr 2014) about how Amazon Prime just got HBO to stream at least some of its older content, plus "HBO GO," to Amazon's new Fire TV box, thereby making NetFlix upset because NetFlix (nor any other streaming service, including HULU) has never been able to get any HBO content; and so Amazon has scored a real coup!
