VIDEO: Marijuana Commercials Start To Air on TV. The Question Is: Should They?

New Jersey's first medical marijuana ad is showing on A&E, Bravo, CNBC, ESPN, Fox and—of course—the Food Network.

Medical marijuana has officially hit the airwaves in New Jersey.

A website that purportedly connects medical marijuana doctors to potential patients has begun airing a commercial on one cable provider in the Garden State.

The MarijuanaDoctors.com spot began showing on select Comcast cable networks between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.—an insomniac-heavy timeslot typically rich with phone sex ads and infomercials.

The minute-long ad equating sushi and pot was produced in 2011, according to The Daily News, but hadn’t hit the airwaves until now. The CEO of the for-profit company told the Daily News that they were waiting for “populous East Coast states such as New Jersey and Massachusetts” to enact medical marijuana laws.

The ad wouldn’t be shown on family-oriented networks, according to the report, but channels such as A&E, Bravo, CNBC, ESPN, Fox and the Food Network.

Advertising of tobacco and alcohol is a controversial topic that has been debated for decades in both the media and consumer industries

While cigarette ads on TV and radio were banned outright in 1970, marijuana's medical uses will likely align the future advertising of the drug with prescription medications ubiquitously hawked on television—a more recent advertising concern.

Thank you Chris F. for the breath of fresh air and sane comments. Everyone I talk with would choose medical marijuana over Chemo any day!

I think they should Advertise in NJ and everywhere else. The stigma of the Governmental Brainwashing has to be overcome with the Truth that The Government was wrong and their is a Medical need for MJ to be Legal. The Whole Truth needs to be told about those who Profited from letting people suffer so they could create their own toxic chemical mix and push it off on the people! The whole MJ issue has been a big cover-up and sham since the (Mostly noted) 1920 & 1930's then continued to the present day. The Death of 1000's upon 1000's may have been prevented if it had not been for Greed of those in our Government..That are more concerned about themselves having health care and a retirement and under the table payoffs when they leave office. "MEDICAL MARIJUANA" "HELPS PEOPLE"

Chris F. thinks the primary users of cannabis and proponents of marijuana legalization are cancer patients. Hilarious. I bet that kid I saw the other day weaving around in the fast lane, with his buddy sucking on a pipe load of green was just diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Let the misinformation campaign continue.

Manzano, I suggest the use for medical marijuana, Kids will always get their hands on what ever their drug of choice is and their gateway drug is probably the ADD/ADHD medicine or one of their parents vices! That said how sure are you that the car you saw "weaving around in the fast lane" as you say while his buddy was sucking on a pipe of "Green"? Sounds like a made up story, Don't be rude the article is about "Medical Marijuana" as for misinformation I am sure you are well informed on that issue! now go suck down your cocktail and get back to your fox news network!

It sounds like marijuana could be a pretty good medical treatment. I had no idea that it could possibly stop cancer. I wonder if I can find some research on it. It would be interesting to know its benefits. Jayden Eden | http://www.mountainhightreks.com/
