Boy Scouts of America Troop 240, West Hempstead is conducting a cell phone collection drive to help “Cell Phones for Soldiers.” The Troop has a collection box in the West Hempstead Public Library. Please drop your old phones in the collection box for recycling. Batteries, chargers and accessories are not required but gladly accepted. Cell Phones for Soldiers is a non profit organization which has been around since 2004. They recycle and sell old phones and use the money they receive from the recycled phones to buy calling cards for deployed and returning military personnel. Cell Phone for Soldiers has distributed over 500,000 prepaid calling cards to soldiers.
Last year, because of the generous donations of cell phones from the community, the scouts provided soldiers with over 1,200 minutes of talk time. They are hoping to exceed this for the coming year. Additional information is available at http://www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com/ or by email to Eagle Scout Steven Trezza, Project Coordinator, at Troop240whservice@hotmail.com.
