Help Wanted at Grossmann's Farm

The farm in Malverne is hiring - and looking for a truck.

The recently re-opened Grossmann's Farm in Malverne is hiring - and looking to borrow a truck.

The Nassau Land Trust, contracted by Nassau County to manage the farm, sent out an email early Thursday morning to announce that it was seeking candidates for a part-time cashier position and an assistant farm stand manager.

"As we move forward, we are making strides to address the needs of the farm, but can use your help," the email stated.

The following is a description of each position and the qualities the land trust is seeking.

Cashier
 
The Nassau Land Trust is looking to hire a part-time cashier for the farm stand at Grossmann’s Farm in Malverne. They are looking for someone with cash register/retail experience to handle the sales transactions at the farm stand on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. This person will also be responsible for helping to set-up the farm stand and will be involved in the closing of the farm stand and closing out the register at the end of the day.  This position may evolve into a full-time position.  
 
The ideal candidate will have retail experience (farm stand experience preferred), is personable and comfortable interacting with the general public on a daily basis, and is a team player.  Someone interested in organic farming is desired.
 
Assistant Farm Stand Manager
 
The Nassau Land Trust is looking for an Assistant Farm Stand Manager to help run the farm stand at Grossmann’s Farm in Malverne. This is the farm’s first growing and selling season and need help managing the retail aspect of the farm. The responsibilities of the Assistant Farm Stand Manager include:

  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the farm stand, under the supervision of the Farm Manager
  • Tracking inventory orders and receiving deliveries
  • Supervising and managing volunteers
  • Setting up and displaying produce and other goods sold at the farm stand
  • Operating the cash register and reconciling the register at the end of the day
  • Basic understanding of bookkeeping principles
  • Creating signs and helping with marketing
  • Routine maintenance of the farm stand area
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Performing as-needed tasks to ensure the farm stand’s successful operation

The ideal candidate will have retail experience (farm stand experience preferred), is personable and comfortable interacting with the general public on a daily basis, and is a team player.  Someone interested in organic farming is desired.  Must be able to lift and carry 50lbs.  The hours for this position will vary.

Truck Wanted

The land trust is also looking to borrow a truck to transport several pieces of office furniture they recently acquired through a donation. They would need to secure the use of a 15’- 24’ box truck for a trip to take place over the next two weeks. The furniture will need to travel approximately 120 miles from New Jersey to the farm.  Anyone willing to donate their truck for a day, or several hours, to help out should contact the trust at (888) 547-5757 x1 or email akarmel@nassaulandtrust.org.

Weekend Farm Hours

For Memorial Day weekend, Grossmann's Farm will be open Friday from noon-6 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m.-3 p.m..
