Lady of America Works Out to Fight Pediatric Cancer [Photos]

West Hempstead gym holds annual fundraiser for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

For the sixth consecutive year, members and guests broke a sweat at gym in West Hempstead to raise funds to fight pediatric cancers.

They hit the matt to see how many crunches they could knock out in an hour. Others opted to devote 60 minutes to doing an exercise of their choosing, which including spinning, hula-hooping, and cardio. With ever calorie they torched they also raised money for the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, which is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving patients with pediatric cancer.

"It was a successful day," Lady of America owner Vita Zorbo said. "Over $7,800 has been raised so far [this year alone.]"

Since the gym began this fundraiser in 2006, they have raised well over $50,000.

Once again, Hempstead Town Councilman Ed Ambrosino sported his gym gear too and got in on the action. Plus, more than 40 small businesses donated items that were raffled off to raise additional funds, and Milano's provided healthy salads and delicious Sicillian pies that the participants could feast on after logging their workout.
