Malverne Youth Groups Feed the Needy

The Malverne Mud Hens and the Our Lady of Lourdes youth ministry helped feed many this Thanksgiving.

Two groups of young people from Malverne collected cans, baked bread and most of all, devoted their time this week to feeding the hungry for Thanksgiving.

Eight girls from the Our Lady of Lourdes Youth Ministry spend their Friday evening on Nov. 19 in the basement of O.L.L. school mixing and baking pumpkin bread. The exceeded their goal of making over 50 loaves, which were included in Thanksgiving Baskets delivered to needy families as part of the St. Vincent de Paul pantry program.

Over the weekend, it was the boys' turn, as the Malverne Mud Hens, decked in their baseball uniforms, stood outside the Malverne Firehouse on Nov. 21 collecting food and cash. After the three hour drive was finished, they had received a total of 674lbs of food and $208 in monetary donations, which were both donated to Island Harvest.
