From Cubs to Scouts: Pack 240 Joins the Big 'Boys'

West Hempstead's Webelos bridge into the Boy Scouts.

It took only a few small steps for each scout to cross over the tiny wooden bridge set-up inside Villa Umberto in Elmont Saturday, but it represented a big leap for the boys.

In those moments, the eight Webelos from West Hempstead's Cub Pack 240 became Boy Scouts, following in the footsteps of many other young men who have committed themselves to scouting. During the Blue and Gold celebration, the fifth graders - Joseph Andree, Joseph Canzoneri III, Randy Murphy, Thomas Cicalese, Donato D'Agosto, Terrell Figaro, Dimitri Cargill and Matthew Carlson - earned their Arrow of Light and received their neckerchiefs. Assemblyman Ed Ra, Nassau County Legis. Vincent Muscarella and Town Councilman Ed Ambrosino also stopped by to present awards to the scouts, including one on behalf of Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano.

After the ceremony concluded, all the scouts in attendance and their families were equally entertained and educated by Mad Science, who performed interactive experiments with the kids.

Cubmaster Tyy Andree and his wife, Pack 240 Committee Chairperson Kathy Andree, were also recognized for their service to the scouts, and the organization announced the creation of the “The Andree Family Spirit of Scouting Award,” which will be given out every year to a member of the pack who exemplifies what is means to be a scout.
